Delete those entries and simply use the provided BAT file of the mod directly, it will then use any cusotm entries in the mod's CFG file which maybe needed. If it says 'kingdoms.exe not found' apply my guide underneath.
First of all apply LAA to your medieval2.exe file before following my guide: https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371

If I remove the string and start the mod from its batch file, the vanilla Medieval 2 starts. When using the string, the mod starts, and I can play custom battles, but the game crashes with a fatal graphics error when I try to start a campaign
Something is certainly messed up. If vanilla starts with the bat file being used it's usually an issue with the CFG file of the mod, eg the reference to the mod folder inside it. Did you maybe change the mod directory name?
Fatal graphics could be overcome by using 'disable full screen optimization' in the exe file's compatibility, eg medieval2 and kingdoms. Give them admin rights while you are at it and win7 compatibility.
I am using the 1191 and Bulat Steel mods. Both of these mods work perfectly on my non-Steam edition of Medieval II.
Custom battles work fine in both of these mods on the Steam Edition. However, on both mods the campaign crashes on load with a “fatal graphics error”.
I renamed the Medieval II executable to Kingdoms.
I applied Large Address Aware.
I lowered the graphics to lowest settings.
I checked “Disable full screen optimization”
I checked “Run in Windows 7 Compatibility Mode”.
I checked “Run as Administrator”.
I renamed my mod to “Americas”.
Nothing has worked. My mods still crash on campaign load with a “fatal graphics error.”
Is CA aware of this nonsense?
Does The Exceedingly Mighty, Just, and Generous Gigantus have any more ideas?
P.S. I wonder if having two versions of Medieval II, the non-Steam version and the Steam Definitive Edition version installed on the same computer, could somehow be causing my problem. I would uninstall the non-Steam version to see if that makes any difference, but since it is the only version that is working properly with these mods in campaign, unless Gigantus suggests that this is the problem, I am hesitant to do so.
Late to answer the call - I used to have both versions without any issues - other then installers that determine their installation path via registry entry (like mine), which will always end up the second game installation.
I am now back to just the disk version because of all the spanners the Steam version throws.
One last thing that can be tried is an update of the ActiveX setup, eg the June 2010 one: https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=6812
More, and vastly detailed info if you search for directx sdk in this forum. Small summary: something to do with directx for really old games not supported in latest windows versions hence the 2010 update (if I remember correctly)
Get into the mod by using its bat file. I maxxed out the graphics and gamethrough seems fluent for now

i aint no broke ηιggα. my setup is quite good, garbage here is medieval2 and sega
Tut, tut. You are expecting miracles from a 32bit game that is nearly 20 years old and that was never designed (how could it?) to make full use of today's processing and graphic capabilities. Nor was it ever 'upgraded' after the DLC release shortly after.
Never mind associating Nvidia with low quality garbage. (The intent was to improve on possible present presets, btw).
But you are welcome that at least one of my advises helped.
PS - the directX issue does not exist with the disk version, SEGA (the other garbage) in it's wisdom provided the relevant directx installation from the disk. Rather blame windows for not supporting old games like this anymore. Or Steam, who does not provide the files SEGA compiled.
