Hotseat Campaign w/ Steam Remote Play Together (DIY Method)

This is how I went about getting the hotseat campaign working with steam's remote play together. Your results may vary. A slow internet connection on either side of this will result in a poorer experience, obviously.

However, given that the main method of online hotseat campaign multiplayer is file-sharing save files every turn, I still prefer this. There are programs out there that require less setup, like Parsec, but I found that Parsec didn't work well at all with Medieval 2. Very slow on the end of the connecting player, even one with a decent connection.

To do this, I used Third Age Total War 4.0, version 4.7.1 (because that's the one I wanted online hotseat for). I also went and briefly tested the Britannia campaign from the kingdoms expansion.

Method below:

1. Start steam in administrator mode, either permanently with compatibility settings or just once at a time for whenever you want to do this. Reason being the keyboard and mouse input of the connecting player wouldn't work without it, even when enabled in the Remote Play Together UI in-game.

2. Go to this link, scroll down to the bottom, follow those instructions.

3. When in-game and connected, the connecting player should left-click. For some reason that initializes their controls or something and then from there it's fine.

The program claims it works for any steam game or non-steam game as long as it's linked to and launched through steam, but I can't verify that. Just that Medieval 2 works and it works pretty well.

Not terribly complicated, but all the info for this was all over the place and none of it in the Medieval 2 discussion board. Hopefully now people can type "Remote Play Together" in the searchbar and find this instead of trial and erroring different guides like I did.
