Or mess with the registry (totally not recommended) as the installer looks for this specific entry with the value of 1.05.000:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\SEGA\Medieval II Total War\Version
Also if a friend was to install the mod, would they just send me the mod or the entire game file?
Just the mod's directory needs to be uploaded. After downloading simply copy it into the mods sub directory and create a desktop shortcut from the BAT file in the root of the mod.
You may also have to create a kingdoms executable file:
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=859017394
PS: implement the guide and then try installing again - there is a chance that the installer is looking for the executable and not the registry entry. You will need it anyhow for older mods to make them steam compatible.
'playable' can be achieved in the same file by moving the faction's entry from the 'nonplayable' to the 'playable' section. Note that making papal states and slaves playable comes with pitfalls and possible crashes during game play.
descr_strat.txt can be found here: ...\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign
And your batch file is actually kingdoms.exe.BAT - the last extension is hidden by default if it is common so renaming such a file will always retain that extension.
