I tried that, but there's no descr._srat file for mac when you download from steam

So how it looks on mac?
Sorry but it's difficult to help you without mac ( :D ) or some screenshots
You're fine lol, yeah I can't figure out how to post a screenshot of it, but it's just weird, because I know when I had Rome there was a file like that, but I can't find any of those with Medieval and the lack of files that I have is surprisingly small
You can use F12 to screenshot in game.:steamhappy:

Well completing a campaign as a stock faction will unlock them all; that's how it's supposed to be done. If you want to do this in the shortest way possible, then I'd say choose a short campaign, and cheat your way through it. Then choose whichever faction you want to be otherwise.
Haha I figured out how to get to the descr_strat file, it was weird though. And yeah specifically I was trying to unlock the papal states

Would you mind showing how you did it? I have a similar question and previously used the games on a windows pc, so I have no clue how to do this on a mac.
I ended up just downloading a mod I found that also unlocked the Aztecs and Mongols among others

Path to the descr_strat file: ...\data\world\maps\campaign\imperial_campaign\descr_strat.txt

Then edit the top of the file until it looks like this (all playable factions into top section):

campaign imperial_campaign playable england france hre spain venice sicily milan scotland byzantium russia moors turks egypt denmark portugal poland hungary end
unlockable
end
nonplayable
papal_states aztecs mongols timurids slave end
