Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

How Do I Counter the Timurids
So in campaign i am playing as the turks i have conquered the whole world and waiting for carracks to start recruiting so i can go to america but i also am defending against the timurids. When the mongols invaded i easily wiped them out by using huge armies of horse archers and heavy/light cavalry. For the timurids however the elephants and the cannons make it so difficult i tried making an army of heavy infantry using dis sipaphi lancers, and sacaren militia, and also horse/heavy/light cav to counter them but it doesn't work for me at all i use cannons and theyre so useless because their archers go straight at them i cant fire a single shot even with troops nearby. May somone please give me some tips on how to counter the timurids? Thank you :)

Sounds like you found the game easy until now. Finally you experience a challenge! I suggest you enjoy the challenge! :steamhappy: I enjoy the game much more when I find it challenging.

You kill 'm all.

Also, anyone should be able to figure out that if fighting them in the field wouldn't work, then the logical thing would be to take chokepoints, rivers or castles/cities as the best place to fight.

Also, if you can take over Europe by the time they arrive, something tells me you should increase difficulty (or stop using console commands).

That also includes exploits, because the Turks lend themselves really well to a rush campaign.

Then stop using exploits and play the game like it was meant to be played. Everyone can cheat/exploit their way to victory, but not everyone can get to victory when played like it was meant to be played.

You've seen it yourself, you got crushed by the Timurids.

Everyone can auto-resolve....and you always lose more troops with auto-resolve than fighting yourself.

Every game before Napoleon is pretty damn easy even on the hardest settings. Shogun 2 is the first Total War I feel like I lose as much as win.

toons of artillary, even ballistas work

artillery isn't really that effective/reliable in Medieval 2 to take care of enemy units. Ballista are the most reliable but at the same time can easily be replaced by other units.

Best is to take them on in a place where they can be funneled. So bridges/castles and have a ton of archers, better are crossbows. Then focus the elephants so they run amok and take out the enemy.

Shoot them.

Shoot them shoot them shoot them shoot them shoot them to Death. Whether using gunpowder artillery (which is probably the ideal solution), muskets, or archers, you really do need to whittle down their mounted ranged units and keep your own ranged units protected while doing so.

As the others have said, they are strong in field battles and weaker in sieges or when attacking strong positions. Use that to your advantage. Try and get it so they can only attack with a fraction of their force at any given time,s o you can defeat them in detail. Like if they're trying to go through a gate or breach in the wall.
