Stainless Steel installation guide?
I tried following the SS install guide from Total War Center but it wasn't really clear to me what to do and I was getting a bunch of notifications aboutMediafire from Windows Defender and Avast. I know that Anti-virus software companies do alot of false positives to try and increase sales, but I have gotten some nasty popups that locked my browser on Mediafire when trying to install it and they took the mod down from Mod DB and gamefront for some reason. Can someone give an idiot proof guide to installing this?

I just installed it today with no problems. First you need to install 6.3 normally, just make sure you change the install path to the steam path (programfiles/steam/steamapps/common/medieval). When the popup comes up to select a campaign, close the window and finish the install. Then install 6.4 in the same way. Again, close the window. Go to steam and right click for properties. Select local files and it will bring up the directory of your total war files. Find the medieval2 file and copy it so you have 2 copies of it. Change the name of one of them to kingdoms. Then you should be all set!
I'm sure I paraphrased a few parts of it (trying to recall from memory) maybe someone else can clear up a few parts.

Good video for installing.

I used the ones from Google Drive on the last post. Your antivirus may give you some red flags (mine did), but no worries.

After you finish the installation and doing the setup, put this in your launch options:

--features.mod=mods/SS6.3

With the above line in your launch options you won't need to rename your launcher to kingdoms or anything like that. You can launch Stainless Steel from the games list or a desktop shortcut if you so wish.

This one is for mac users but I feel that you can skip the first several parts of this and go straight to step 14.

Often developers will put the steps in the wrong order or will delete steps and pretend they weren't there to begin with. It's all for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles. Making it hard for people to get their mods working is the best way to ensure their popularity and total quantity of downloads.

What that doesn't make sense? Welcome to Total War modding.

Where did you get that myth from? Never met a developer that intentionally attempted to minimize his downloads. For ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles? Seriously?

The cause of this is in lots of cases because CA, steam and windows have made a good effort numerous times to mess up established modding practices - blaming the modder for not keeping up with that is just plain lazy.
Remember the merging of the executables in the Steam version? Now THAT really screwed older, not supported mods over.
The securom removal by windows did an equally great job, although that mostly effected RTW.
