Kingdoms has made Novgorod weaker than Russia in vanilla, hasn't it??.
It's a pity how Novgorod haven't been given newer/better units in the Teutonic campaign Kingdoms. I mean HRE got the AP 2-HS units (Zwei Hander, Dismounted GKs and the OP Forlorn Hope), Denmark got the Gotland Footmen (under Kalmar Union) plus Huscarls with 'frighten enemy infantry', Teutonic order with the awesome looking Ritterbruder/Halbruder and Lithuania with Giltine's chosen.

I have checked out a few mods where Novgorod get 'Varangian' archers and other such units but I feel Kingdoms missed a trick by not upgrading Russia/Novgorod units (they made even existing units like Tsars Guards less interesting, both in terms of stats and animation).

And Turkey in the Crusades campaign get some silly units (I mean, what's the deal with Iqtadar??; I don't see how they're much of an improvement over Sipahis).

Well, the Teutonics campaign isn't about Novgorod. It's about the Northern Crusades.

Yeah, I know that (it's just that I liked playing as Russia in vanilla). But seeing how Novgorod is one of the 4 starting playable factions, they could have at least not downgraded the units like Druzhina/Boyar Sons/Tsars Guards (Dismounted/Mounted Dvor and Cossack Musketeers are the only two/three remaining units that are any good now). A (real historical) unit like Gulay Gorod could have been really interesting imo.

Well, the only thing that I can say to that is; Stainless Steel 6.4

Russia/Novgorod in kingdoms is actually significantly better than vanilla because all the other factions received major nerfs to their good units while Rus/Nov units remained relatively untouched. Only HRE, Denmark and Turks got significantly better across the board all the other OP units and factions are campaign specific.

Still, I agree they missed an opportunity with Novgorod specifically.

They still have one of the best if not the best hybrid infantry unit in the game. Dismounted Dvor. They are basicly dismounted imperial knights with composite bows.
They also get access to horse archers which are the best unit type in the game.

It's not the best unit roster but definately not the worst.
