Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

recommended mods?
I was thinking of getting this eventually, so are there any mods that anyone would recommend I use with it?

Also, in case anyone suggests it, don't suggest Hyrule: Total War. The reason being is that Hyrule: Total War is actually the main reason why I'm thinking of getting this.

Third Age Total War and it's submods are good as well. I've been playing HTW for a bit posting playthroughs on youtube. You should at least play a short campaign in vanilla to get used to the game if you haven't played Rome Total War. Most mods are designed for playing on Very Hard Strategic Map and Very Hard Battles. Hyrule in paticular depending on your faction can have a really hard early game if you don't know what you're doing - you pretty much have to plan to have mercs in your early game roster to survive/ some factions assume you buy mercs to shore up a major weakness. Third Age is tough in terms of the strategic map - it's a long campaign and buildings/ general training needs to be planned if you're playing certain factions with a difficult campaign. Stainless Steel is a good mod to start with - basically improves the vanilla game while upping the difficulty. There's also a Warhammer mod and Game of Thrones as well.

So...most mods are like the Starcraft Mass Recall mod for Starcraft 2...punishingly difficult for people who aren't that great at RTS...crap...

Either way, in HTW, how hard is Hyrule Historia mode? (assuming I'm correct in assuming it's the main campaign, and assuming the main campaign, like Starcraft and Warcraft 3, acts as an extended preview for the various factions).

Actully Hyrule Historia is not out right now, Hyrule Total War factions are undergoing a revamp at the moment. Due to this revamp the story missions aren't compatable with said revamp - so they aren't with the current versions of the game. There's talk of the first batch of mission being rereleased by Christmas however. As for difficulty - from what I've seen it's not too difficult at all actually. It's not the battles that are difficult (The exception of not knowing what the enemy units can do and bringing the wrong army.) it's the setup to the battles. IE bringing mage units against the Deku Tribes who's units almost all have missle attacks which mages are vulnerable to, slow units against misslie units, no anti calv vs Hyrule, no heavy infantry against the Gohma and so on. It's usually the "civilization" building part where the difficulty is. Note that you don't have to play on VH/VH for these mods, it's just the recomendation.
What you'll enjoy depends on personal taste. I like the Kingdoms Grand Campaign Mod and Custom Campaign Mod 2. I am curious to try the Call of Warhammer: Total War mod, the Dragonlance: Total War - Takhisis Rising mod, the Eras Total Conquest mod, the Europa Barbarorum II mod, the Falcom Total War 3: The Total Conquest mod, the For King or Country: The English Civil War mod, the Invasio Barbarorum 2: Conquestu Britanniae II mod, the Renaissance Total War mod, the Third Age: Total War mod and the Westeros Total War mod.

Well, the closest that I'll be getting it is winter, so I can wait.
Stainless Steel and pike shot 1648 mod
Warhammer is in two words "Crash simulator"
When you do get M2 (it's usually on sale for 75% off), play the main game first. Not just the tutorial.

Every single one of the M2 mods are made by expert Total War players who are bored with the stupidity of the AI. They make their mods difficult for their skill level, which is absurdly high. (Like taking over the whole map in 14 turns as the Turks).
TATW is an amazing submod. However, it works rather differently to the main game & you need to know how to exploit, abuse, and generally laugh at the AI before you'll get ANYWHERE in it.
HTW has factions with glaring weaknesses & you need to know how to cope with those & what to do.

(Oh, and to run mods you really do need the Kingdoms DLC.)
