Looking for a simple fix for 2handers and pikes
İ tried to play Stainless Steel but the game always crashed at battle loading screen. World map worked fine but battles were impossible to enter. Do you know anything for just fixing vanilla game's pike/2handers?

I think you need to delete/remove the following files from the SS6.3 Data folder to prevent crashes;

descr_geography_new.db
descr_geography_new.txt

To fix pikes you need to disable their secondary weapon.

To fix 2-handed units you need to give them the same animation as Janissary Heavy Infantry. As far as I'm aware the following units need the animation change;

Dismounted English Knights
Dismounted Noble Knights
Dismounted Portugese Knights
Free Company Men-At-Arms
Gallogaich
Gallogaich Mercs
Woodsmen
Croat Axemen
Tabardariyya
Mutatawwi'a
Billmen
Bill Militia
Heavy Billmen
Heavy Bill Militia
Norse Axemen
Varangian Guard
Berdiche Axemen

I haven't done any of this for years. I'm going off my old notes from many years ago.

This'll help a lot. The video @Mekkermann's answer was about disabling secondary weapons. Looks not so hard to do it. Thanks both of you

A fix for the loading screen crash can be found here, second post: https://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?805683

Keep in mind that removing secondary weapon from pikes can make them overpowered real quick, real fast.

Even pikes with 1 atk and 1 def can deal insane amounts of damage if the pike is long enough and their formation dense enough.

So you'll want to adjust their melee attack and defence accordingly.

I haven't tried myself yet but I have watched the video at the first comment. They won the 1vs1 against plate/shield infantry but not so fast but you can be true against low armored targets.

It´s not so much about the secondary weapon it´s more about the mass and formation that´s need to be fixed. You will also have to activate guard mode to make Pikes work probably in battles. Pikes will be strong from the front but almost helpless when outflanked or in the middle of two units. It´s also depends on the quality Pike militia is good at defending Gates but better use the very carefull in open field battles. Portugese, Scottish or Byzantine pikemen on the other side will be very strong with this fix, the earlier the Pikes appear in the timeline the stronger since there is not as much units to counter them.

Plate armored 2 handed unit's deadly charge should break their lines and also attacking flanks should destroy them. Am i right?

If you fix the unit animation and I made a test with Roar of conquest, Zweihander vs Pikemen: Zweihander lose (so I didn´t use upgrades for armor) . Gothic Knights vs Pikemen: Gothic Knights win 100 vs 650 losses . But it was still a slugfest and Pikeformations are not meant to be broken from the front in any other way than Firepower. From the flanks its fine but better attack them from two sides at once and in street battles they can be a real pain in the ass. I usually soften them with Firepower and then flank them with Venetian Infantry or something similar two handed units only when they are widely available like berdiche militia or axemen and ,okay thats personal preference, I like units with shields more. They are not as vulnerable to enemy firepower.

I lost some Battles against Byzantines because after I defeated their first army my lines where thinned out and that made it possible that their second Army cataphracts just charged through my now 2 or 3 lines of pikeniers and made a huge mess of the vulnerable archer units inside of my tercio formation.

Two handed swords is what I tend to use in DaC to beat up pike formations.

That said, their melee atk and def are quite high in DaC to compensate for their issues.

Hey Gigantus, sorry for the OOT here but I really need your help.

So I have been using your bare geomod, playing it off from your file etc. I came to a halt when I need to modify the export_unit MID GAME, then it doesn't want to load the save.

Any ideas?
