Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

Medieval II VS Atilla
I've got Medieval 2 but the mechanics and UI makes it a issue to play compared to the other games. Thinking about getting a refunds for Atilla since it's seems like it has more Depths than Medieval. Plus the desktop button doesn't even work. Any other opinions?

I cannot speak to your views, but personally, Attila was a joke. The campaign map starts to hurt my eyes in about 20-30 minutes with all the colors bleeding together with no real focal points for your vision. Not even the Rome Remaster is as bad as Attila.

If press escape while in the game then the menu pops up which lets you exit - not sure what you mean.

When you press the windows button the games still runs but It'll return you to the desktop. Say if you want listen to youtube videos while playing the game. You press the windows button.

Alt tabbing - simply set the game to 'windowed'.
Pain in the butt with the default set up (you need to make the CFG fiel read-only after the changes), but you can use my Bare Geomod installation to do so without that: https://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?352216

You need the following settings in the [video] section of the CFG file (opens with Notepad), code form my BG setup:

windowed = 1 # allows for easy Alt+Tab, requires game video resolution the size of desktop or larger
borderless_window = 1 # removes border from windowed mode
battle_resolution = 1920 1080 # enter your desktop resolution
campaign_resolution = 1920 1080 # enter your desktop resolution

What exactly about the mechanics turn you off? Being completely objective, Medieval 2's battlefield mechanics are far more solid than Attila. Most of that is due to the Warscape engine being a massive POS and the present-day CA staff being extraordinarily less competent, but if you play both games and really pay attention, Med2 functions far more smoothly than any of the later games.

For a suggestion, you might want to install Stainless Steel. It smooths out a lot of Med2's rougher edges, makes the diplomacy system far more intuitive, rebalances units, and boasts a heartier roster of factions to choose from.

I have been on and off with this one: https://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?809813
i like modern total wars like atilla for 4 reasons:
- cavalry dismounting
- turning trade route raiding into a profitable business instead of just devastation
- sea battles
- ai pathfinding & responsiveness

these are improvements i have encountered over medieval 2 that the old game definitely can not compete with. when it comes to literally anything else though, it can. and be better at it too. you'd be surprised what modders also achieved with medieval 2 that was originally thought impossible.

With 1212 it has potential if they can finish of that to do list that's been there for the past 2 years or so but vanilla Attila TW I could not enjoy despite many attempts and a strong want to do so.
Med II TW I have played to death , Love it, but its dated and have moved on.
The only thing that would bring me back to that game is if some smart cookie of a modder finds a way to have troops auto replenish over turns when garrisoned as its a chore to manually do each and every unit ones self.
Provincial management also becomes tedious the larger ones empire grows.
