Medieval 2 Total War Encountered An Unspecified Error And Will Now Exit
I've been getting this message constantly every time I try to play basically any mod for this game, It's more common for SS 6.4, less common for Total Vanilla Beyond, and the campaign is unplayable for Broken Crescent. I've tried uninstalling the game multiple times and verifying the integrity for the files, I've turned down the graphics, unit scale, etc in game. I have a good setup as I can run modern games on ultra settings so I know its not my PC. I've tried to google this but nothing is working. Do you guys have any other ideas?

I have the same problem with SS 6.4 even with Meelo Hotfix V1.27 and Bug Fix 5 of loading screens crashes. I´ve reinstalled and follow up the instructions of the mod installation thread here to the letter and even though it is suppoused function correctly that way I only managed to solve the loading screen crashes, i get constant in battle crashes and insane lag and stuttering (no more than 12 FPS) and I´ve been running Rome Remastered on ultra graphics and unit size on 60 FPS 300HZ.

I really don´t know what the heck did they do to this game last years patches to let it die so horribly broken.

I've just been trying to get DarthMod to work and replacing some sound files did the trick. Not sure if that'll work for SS or other mods, but worth a try?

"Copy events.dat and events.idx from Medieval II Total War\data\sounds to Darth\data\sounds" - I guess Darth will = SS or similar for your mod.

I also did the Meloo182 thing outlined below, whatever it was, beforehand. Not sure if that had any influence, but overwriting those two sound files suddenly made it stop crashing on start up.

The sound issue will happen if you install really old mods, back from the days when only one executable existed - pre-DLC days.
Basically the event.dat file references sound files that do not exist, hence the crash.
