Stainless steel 6.4 constant crashing
Okay so I used to play Medieval 2 with stainless steel 6.4 a lot on my old pc(core 2 duo E8500, 650 and 4GB RAM). I also had a pirated version of Medieval 2.

Now I have the bought version with a much better PC(Ryzen 5 1600, 1050ti, 8GB RAM). And the game crashes constantly. I've played 5 hours and had about 11 crashes. Everything from unspecified error, graphical error, and just quiting to desktop. Most crashes seem to be in battle, or while loading battles.

Any ideas how to fix it?
(I tried 4GB patch, and I'm using windows 10 BTW)

It's a downloadable patch that some Medieval 2 mods need. The game can only use 2GB of RAM, but the patch allows it to use 4. Some mods need it

I see.

And what is the name of this....so called patch?

Large Address Aware 'patch' - it helps with stability of the game as it enables the use of more RAM. Especially useful with mods where the developers don't give a damn how many MBs a model and it's texture use. Ever seen strat map character model with a 5MB texture? Ridiculous, right? Considering that 500KB is large enough for whatever details you try to display.
Or 10MB+ for a battle model with only one mesh that has so many polygons it makes your head spin.

Here is the SS specific 'patch' he really should be using: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=4331

Well, not every mod that has a 4g b patch coems with LAA and so I very much doubt that OP has actually used LAA.

He also failed how to explain how he applied the "patch".

Then there's the obvious HRE-bugs that are fixed in the unoficial 6.4 patch and so we come to know absolutey 0 about what OP has installed and what OP hasn't installed.

Also, grats with the mod award on TWCenter.
"4gb patch" by name is functionally identical to LAA. One's a more concise slang for the other term.

Applying LAA actually breaks the game's EULA as it modifies the executable - hence no mod includes it in it's installation.

And yes, '4GB patch' is a euphemism for the LAA application. It modifies the Large Address flag setting in the executable to enable the use of 4GB memory instead of just 2GB. Can't really mess that one up, but even then one makes a back up before doing stuff like that, no?

It feels like Gigantus misinterpreted a lot of what I said. The game crashed often, so I made a backup and applied the 4GB patch. It didn't help. I only mentioned it so that it isn't recommended to me
Mate, I feel like you've misinterpreted the thread that's built around this conversation. You didn't ask about it. Someone else did. It clearly needed additional explanation I guess, anyways.

He suggested a link to something different for you in his very first post. Me, I suggest finding the Bugfix Compilation 1.27 mod.

Thanks to everyone who posted. Nothing seems to have been able to fix it though.. I'm just gonna assume it's a problem that occurs due to using a new OS and hardware with an older game. I installed it on my old pc again and it works fine, so I'll just play it there

The link I suggested IS the 1.27 bugfix compilation - I made an installer for it.

Applying admin rights to the executable may help as well, 'how to' explained in this article: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?755286

It looked different to me. Heh. That should make it simpler, then.
