(THIRD AGE: TOTAL WAR) How to cheat in third age total war? Where did my Descr_shortcuts.txt go?

yeah i want to play around in third age total war since i've been playing it a lot the past weeks. just to experiment a little bit and also because i got absolutly crushed by Rohan is Isengard. I've tried following some guides online but i get stumped at the same place. My descr_shortcuts.txt simply doesn't exist.... now i dont know if the devs patched the mod so you can't cheat (which i think is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ if thats the case i'll bloodywell play the game how i want to play it). Does anyone know if this has been changed in updates and maybe you know hoe to help me?

Rohan is a cavalry faction.

Isengard is a pike faction.

Pikes beat cavalry when the AI is an idiot with them, which they always are (GENERAL, GET THE PIKES!).

TATW is supposed to be difficult. The modders who designed it were bored with the difficulty of M2 TW and created a mod that plays completely differently to the original M2. It is indeed very difficult and your M2 strategies simply won't work.

As far as cheating goes, editing the data files should be easily doable (your descr_shortcuts.txt should exist, just try searching for it under steamapps), and you can use console commands - although if you use console commands, so does the AI, and it's a cheat-cheat situation.

You do realise that when you cheat in TATW you help the AI more then yourself right?

Money (and population) cheats give the AI factions x10 of what you give yourself. So the one way to actually make the game more difficult for you, is by cheating.

I suggest changing the descr_strat regarding the starting money and the king's purse. This will provide enough to create a viable economy whilst also being able to field an army.

Then again, it'll make late game to easy since you'll be swimming in cash before turn 150 (unless you lose a ton of armies).

♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I may be alone in this but i think it sucks when a single player game punishes you for cheating i mean the bigget punishment is that the game gets boring quickly when cheating. But i just really like to play around and experiment with cheats just as much as playing legit.


"Isengard is a pike faction." well im not really getting any pikemen i have plenty of (legit) money to buy some but they are just grayed out. Every so often i get to recruit some uruk raiders but i only have one platoon of pikemen.

You do realise that Isengard has one of the more difficult starting locations in the game? So make sure that you do what you can to negate their cav advantage; camp cities/castles and let your infantry handle the situation untill you've got the barracks event (the one telling you that you can finally recruit your main infantry units) and just build up your economy untill then.

Once you get access to your more elite units you can become more aggresive against Rohan and by then there will most likely be an invasion on Edoras. Use that to whoop some Rohan but.

I just restarted today and is doing excatly that but they are pretty damn aggresive

Well, the good thing about DaC is the addition of thte garrison script for the player. This means that certain regions get extra units in the defence of a city (and only then) which also works for the player so that's a nice feature that doesn't help the AI only.

Divide and Conquer, currently (v1.0.01) very fiddly to install, a TATW submod.

Play original TATW first.

use the Steam servers, just click on the title "Online Battles" or something

importantly you need to have the same method of launching the game as the other person
