City to Castle Conversion
So I have a couple cities that are on the far flung parts of my empire and since they're so far away, I'm needing to dump ridiculous amounts of money into happiness building, large enough garrisons to keep order, and having tax set to low. Yet despite all this they are still always hovering around 80 or 90% happiness, which I know is ok but at that point all it takes is a heretic to pop up or even a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ spy and that city is basically screwed from. Also, since they are so far from my capital, the money lost to corruption is crazy high.

In short, these cities are huge freaking money pits for me right now. That being said, I figure an easy fix would be to just convert them to castles for easier happiness control. Problem is, these cities are past the point where it offers the conversion option.

Now that I have all that said (holy hell this is getting WAY longer than I expected) is there a console command or something that will reverse a city back to being able for the conversion or that will just magically change it into a castle?

Don't think you can do it even with a console command.

Let them rebel and than raze the city, this will drop the city size back a couple notches, and you can build castle again. Or just move your capital.

You cant convert a city to a castle period, not without editing several files like the export_descr_buildings and settlement_mechanics

The realistic "Distance to capital" penalty sucks, doesn't it? That's why you have the ability to move your capital, preferably into the centre of your empire. '
Doesn't really help to have London as capital if you are stretched all way to Egypt.

Just saying.

It's in settlement_mechanics if you can't handle it's effect and need to play around with it.

Its the line SOF_distance_to_capital that has to be changed. The lower the number, the lower the effect. Putting it on 0 will remove it.

Also, don't try giving taxes a -.2 or something or you'll end up with -2million something income XD

Thanks for the replies mates! What I eventually tried is just using the console to reduce the population in these cities which lowered the squalor effect on happiness. It feels kinda cheesy and counter productive to erase thousands of population but there's not really much else I could do. C'est la vie.

Moving your capital to the centre of your empire will automatically reduce the distance penalty for previously 'off centre' regions.

Avoid upgrading far away settlements, especially farms - the pop increase (counter measures requires to balance it's negative effect) will outweigh possible gain.
That's why it's impossible to hold Cairo unless you are a 'local' faction.

I never had trouble keeping the holy land and levant as England with London as my capital?

Cairo has two grain trading resources (which add to pop increase) and high fertility - meaning the pop increase is just insane even with only a level one farm. All the others in the area can be held with the usual methods.

Should have been more specific, sorry.

This is possible?
I mean the wall is indestructible

I never build farms unless pop is declining. So much fun can be had with proper governour and very high tax rate to the point I have had +2,5% growth on vh taxes with 200+% public order thanks to governour :)

No need for farms when you can manage that

The size (pop number) of the settlement will reduce, but the level (eg large town) will remain the same. As you assume correctly it's not possible to reverse the building (wall) level - at all. For other destructible building you would require to totally destroy the building and then build it up to the required level.

I must be confused with other tw titles than? Not razing as in WH but reducing city size by 1 tier.
Gigantus Feb 25, 2019 @ 7:07am
Possible - it certainly doesn't work in M2TW.
