Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

Medieval 2 Total War Grand Campaign Hotseat Mode - Definitive Editon
Does anyone know how to run a hotseat campaign in the Definitive addition. The patch and retrofit mod won't run as it no longer finds Kingdoms in the directory?

I've done that but when I load the mod it comes up with an error "Setup was unable to find a valid Medieval II Total War: Kingdoms installation". I can only assume it's because there is no longer a Kingdoms expansion pack as it comes with the pack itself? I was able to do it with my older non-Steam version of the game but can't seem do to do it with this new Steam version

That must be one of those rare installers that checks for the registry entry. which mod is it?

It is Retrofit Mod 1.0 and it doesn't find Kingdoms. However, doing a bit more searching I saw your Long Road mod and have tried that. It doesn't seem to run through the Steam version but I can load it from M2TW folder instead. So I can play it one way but not through Steam!

The Long Road installer I made is steam compatible, not sure what you would be doing wrong with that. It's a simple, straight forward, click through affair.

And then it starts with the desktop shortcut. Chances are you used the steam launching option - make sure nothing is entered in there.

Can't post the link to it here, the steam forum invalidates the link, underneath the complete link over two lines.

I did make an alternative installer for retrofit, if you want me to link it. The retrofit 1.0 installer looks for ♥♥♥♥ that is entirely unnecessary and I ended up making it to avoid trouble on someone else's hotseat.

That was the patch I used, from that link. Have just tried reinstalling and still the same problem - the mod has downloaded onto the Steam file but if I load the game from Steam then it just loads the normal pre-mod game (it also gives me the option of which game to play).

Define 'pre-mod'. Are you talking of the basic\default campaign?
Are you using the mod's desktop shortcut?
Have you checked your steam launch option? - right click the game in the library, select properties and then check if there is anything entered in the launch option drop down

What I mean by pre-mod was that the game that I run from the Steam library is the one without any mods - just the definitive edition - whereas TLR can run from my desktop.

I have just checked the launch option drop down from the properties and there is nothing listed there; which I think is correct, isn't it? Or should I be doing something else?

Thanks for all you help with this by the way, is appreciated

That is correct, the long road mod can only start if you use the desktop shortcut. If it does not work can you describe what happens, eg when does it crash?
Did you change the installation path?

No, didn't do anything like that. Though I can run it from desktop there seems to be a new glitch where the game crashes every time I try to load a battle with the hotseat campaign going. At first it only did it when one of us tried to load a battle, but now it is doing it on both!

Hotseat battle? Never heard of that, it's autoresolve all the way as far as I know. That's maybe the reason why there are no 'live' hotseat battles.

But then I am no expert on multiplayer, I have to admit.

It's identical to singleplayer battles in mechanics, with the exception that you need to set a special config option to fight defensive battles. No possibility for defense against other players due to everything happening on the local computer, but live battles are indeed completely possible.

I know online\multiplayer battles, he is however talking about 'live' battles during a hotseat which is by default autoresolve. I am not aware that you can play a campaign game online in a way that makes battles against another player possible.
