I have recently picked up my old CD Gold Edition of this game, and I had no problem, until I found out that I'm missing 1 patch (which was for 1.5). So I installed it and since then I couldn't start the game. So I registered my Serial Key on Steam, and tried redownloading together with all the patches and stuff. Now I can play both original game and Kingdoms, but when trying to play ANY mod, I get message:

Wrong disc inserted.
Please insert the original ''MED2GOLD'' CD/DVD.
Please have a look at http://www.securom.com/message.asp?m=wrongdisc for further, more detailed information.

I'm really frustrated about this, please help!

EDIT: So I have fixed it, but not sure if it is allowed to talk about this method on discussions, so if you got problem just PM me.

I believe your problem should be with the medieval2.exe file found in the game folder. Follow the steps in the guide about that part. I remember this happening to me and I think this solved it.
