Stainless Steel 6.1 crash

I am having a problem with running stainless steel 6.1. every time I attempt to run the mod it wil crash afer, i choose my faction for the grand campaign. the game will attempt to load the map, and then minimize. It does not give me a crash report or inform me of why its doing this. I am also playing the game off of steam rather then using a CD like i think the mod was designed to be played as. Anyone have any idea on how to fix this?

Use 6.4 instead;
and follow this guide to installing it ;)

I want to use 6.1 because I want to play as Ireland. I have attempted to try to mod Ireland into 6.4 using guides off of total war center, but it is a complicated process for a person who has not done it before.

in that case, i can only recommend looking on TWC for fixes to CTD starting campaign... the same happened to me with EB2 and by the time i'd fixed it, i was pretty much done with the mod - i'll prolly reinstall it once it gets updated tho.
In my case, one of the things that helped was putting it in windowed borderless mode; mileage may vary.

Ok thanks for the advice. This is definitely a learning experience for me. I am just hoping all the effort works out in the end.
