Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

Stainless Steel Artillery
I've got an issue with my Holy Roman Empire campaign in SS. I've built Catapult and Ballistae makers in a couple of cities and castles, and they've been there for at least 10 turns, probably closer to 15 by now (currently year 1163) and I've not been able to train any artillery. Every single turn it says something like "Turns to next available unit: 9" and the number never changes. I've actually also noticed this issue with cavalry, where I see the same thing. The cav issue seems to crop up after training a single cav unit, then I can never do it again.

Anyone know how to deal with this? I have some submods on from the setup menu, and I definitely have greater than 70% Catholic in all the afflicted regions.

Did you use the option that only generals can recruit certain type of units if they are in the settlement? This might be your problem. You'll need to make sure if the settlement has a general that has the appropiate skills to recruit. I'm pretty sure if you have the advanced recruitment option enabled for generals that you won't even get any new heavy cav unless you have the appropate general placed there to train them...

Just a thought...

thats why I have it disabled...

On a more stressing note...does this affect the AI as well? That might be the only reason I would enable it but knowing how stupid the AI is the programmers probably disabled it for the AI allowing them to spam the ♥♥♥♥ out of heavier units just for the sake of it. Anyone can give a definitive answer?
I'm gonna have to check, but can I change the setting for the current campaign, or have I borked this run?
That depends, do you play the campaign with real recruitment ?

Since I'm fairly certain they're not save-game compatible due to the usage of scripts.

Real Recruitment is on by default, and I never turned it off. I guess the Holy Roman Empire is borked. Thankfully I haven't gotten too far. I give it a whirl and see if the config change works.
