40 turns and just 2 regions? I dont think strategy games is your calling lol, maybe you should just restart at this point. Next time try to ally Portugal and wipe out Moors. The pope wont force you to peace which is always comfortable. Your plan should be to simply take the entire south west of the map, then expand into France or Sicily once you have consolidated.
Early game, the first 10 turns, are the most vital of any campaign. Do not remain static, especially on harder difficulty the AI will outproduce you, so early game is when you are at your strongest and they are at their weakest, so take full advantage of it.
