Mods that 'Modernize' the game
Hey all, are there any mods that don't change the gameplay, but rather make the controls similar to newer Total War titles? I'm having problems gettng used to the battle interface and was wondering if there's any QoL improvements that can be found. Thanks!

I don't think so. It's all harcoded.

Ah ok thanks. I guess I'll wait for '1212' to come out for Atilla, seems like a good replacement.

Until CA releases the engine to the public theres very little that modders can do. Mods like EB2 and DaC are already on the limits of the engine.

Only an engine release would allow modders to truly pick apart the game and improve upon the old interface
Or a team sufficiently able to get through the nonsense of memory editing.

Problem with the memory editing is that you need to apply it each time you launch the game.

Which is why you set it up so it runs automatically when starting the game. Of the various issues associated with it, this sounds like the absolute simplest.
You can change the controls in the main menu to make it more like the newer Total Wars.

I honestly had no issues returning from more modern games to M2TW as far as the controls and UI. I'm probably part of the minority in saying that I like how my troops are not 100% reactive to my commands. In current games it's true that even when locked in combat if you tell a troop to go somewhere else they'll do that strictly, but I find it realistic that in the middl3 of a chaotic fight they'd get slower, uncoordinated and sometimes going against your orders.

Anyways I've yet to see any mods to accomplish that OP. There is the option of the minimalist UI, but for the rest I'd probably say locked with the current engine and issues with memory editing, it wont happen.

Dont get me wrong, Med 2 is a great game but it misses a lot of QoL features from the more modern games.

Not sure if I can get back into Medieval 2 after the amount of time spent playing WH2 lately.

I've seen a lot of people complain about the delay between when your unit recieves a command and when it actually executes it. But if you look closely, what happens is this, 1) Unit cancels its current command 2) leader of the unit shouts the new command 3) unit executes the command, not even at the same time with a slight delay between soldiers as those in the back didn't hear the command as easily as those in the front.

I agree that WH2 has probably the best UI in a Total War game, I just wish the game itself wasn't so boring.

Yeah, it does get boring after a while. Atleast in DaC I really have to grind down my enemy to the point I need to risk it for the biscuit in order to break their power and even then it takes a while.

Only my last campaign with the Empire, thanks to a mod, saw a very long war against the Vcounts thanks to their insta recruitment. Often outnumbered massively and slowly edging forward until I crushed them. That was nice because it reminded me of the good ol' days where you struggle to make ground because the ai can recruit without a general.

The greenskins also were large but they buckled the moment I threw a few armies at them and just got annihilated the moment they were beaten.

While in Medieval 2 it can be a grind sometimes, especially with mods. I remember Denmark arriving in northern Italy with 12 stacks against my 3 Jerusalem stacks in my last SS6,4 campaign (which was an epic campaign with great battles) or me and Portugal constantly switching ownership of a city because neither could hold it for long. It does feel like the most fleshed out TW out there.

Yes, it lacks multi-core useage on campaign and battle map thus slowing things down. It also lacks a lot of QoL that exists in TWWH2, it does keep that grandeur that you lack in Rome 2 and beyond.
