Only an engine release would allow modders to truly pick apart the game and improve upon the old interface
Anyways I've yet to see any mods to accomplish that OP. There is the option of the minimalist UI, but for the rest I'd probably say locked with the current engine and issues with memory editing, it wont happen.
Not sure if I can get back into Medieval 2 after the amount of time spent playing WH2 lately.
I've seen a lot of people complain about the delay between when your unit recieves a command and when it actually executes it. But if you look closely, what happens is this, 1) Unit cancels its current command 2) leader of the unit shouts the new command 3) unit executes the command, not even at the same time with a slight delay between soldiers as those in the back didn't hear the command as easily as those in the front.
I agree that WH2 has probably the best UI in a Total War game, I just wish the game itself wasn't so boring.
Only my last campaign with the Empire, thanks to a mod, saw a very long war against the Vcounts thanks to their insta recruitment. Often outnumbered massively and slowly edging forward until I crushed them. That was nice because it reminded me of the good ol' days where you struggle to make ground because the ai can recruit without a general.
The greenskins also were large but they buckled the moment I threw a few armies at them and just got annihilated the moment they were beaten.
While in Medieval 2 it can be a grind sometimes, especially with mods. I remember Denmark arriving in northern Italy with 12 stacks against my 3 Jerusalem stacks in my last SS6,4 campaign (which was an epic campaign with great battles) or me and Portugal constantly switching ownership of a city because neither could hold it for long. It does feel like the most fleshed out TW out there.
Yes, it lacks multi-core useage on campaign and battle map thus slowing things down. It also lacks a lot of QoL that exists in TWWH2, it does keep that grandeur that you lack in Rome 2 and beyond.
