Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

Soundtrack Music, Jeff van Dyck, where to buy?
Hi! I had the soundtrack to this game on CD from a limited(?) box. But now I can´t find it anywhere. I tried Spotify, Google Play, mp3va but all I found was a free version from some ehr website...
But where can I buy legal mp3s of Jeff van Dycks earlier music? (Everything before Shogun II seems deleted) :WHII_Money:
Unfortunately it seems that the soundtrack isn´t included in definitive edition.

There doesnt seem to be any place to get the soundtrack for a price.
Kia Sidhe Sep 29, 2019 @ 2:08am
Yeah, well I guess there is no money in this. It would be nice if CA & Steam could offer us some service in this area though.
I find the tracks I like on youtube, and that's enough for me. I don't feel the need to buy something that the company isn't selling.

True, but I want songs like "Dry Well" on my playlist when I´m at work you see... :HanzosShadow: I tried the turkish artist version, but it´s not quite as good.

Search for 'Music.DAT' files in the gamefiles. Despite their classification as '.DAT' files they can function as normal audio files and can be played by programs like VLC Media Player or windows media player. The entire soundtrack of each campaign is one big file thoug so you will have to edit the files yourself into individual files if you want them seperately. I think the extension used for the sound files is '.SND.PACK', so packed SND files. At least I think thats the case I'm by no means an expert and I could have interpreted the info I got after looking into the files completely wrong.

That said If you want a more official option: https://vgmdb.net/album/6064

This CD came with the collectors edition in 2006 and is as far as I know the only CD release of the soundtrack. It doesn't have all the soundtracks thoug.
I imagine it's quite hard to track down too.

If neither of these options are ideal just rip the soundtracks of youtube. I highly recommend you convert what you get from youtube to lossless .Flac or .Wav files thoug or otherwise you will get some low quality compressed versions of the youtube version of the songs wich are already compressed during upload by youtube and there's also the risk that the uploader didn't use the highest possible quality when uploading either.

.mp3 is generally better quality than .wav and .flac isnt supported by all media players

Wav Is a lossless format and MP3 is not. Unless the original recording for the Wav is really ♥♥♥♥ a Wav file has better audio than MP3. The main reason to use MP3 over Wav is storage space, MP3 takes up way less space.

Flac possibly not working on many devices is indeed an issue to take into account and Wav takes up a lot of space. But converting youtube to MP3 will cause a significant loss in audio quality because the audio gets compressed again while getting a Wav or Flac from youtube will maintain the same audio quality as the video.

Got the original sound track CD from the Kingdoms release back in the days when CDs ruled the world - 22 sound tracks plus another 29 extracted from the game.

https://ibb.co/gMtMTCd

The link to it is from Mediafire which Steam blocks - so you need to remove the double XX in the link below to get the correct address. The download itself is in ZIP format, you know the drill.

Thanks a lot! :)
Yeah, this is the soundtrack I had before. Unfortunately "Dry Well" isn´t included(my personal favorite) but you can´t have it all.
I´ll try to credit/support this soundtrack if I find it somewhere more official.

you can dL an unpacker in TWCenter and unpack all the audio files including speech, effects and of course music. Since you already paid for the game, you basically paid for the music as well.

Here is the link to the tool: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=32

Extract into the sounds directory and run the extract_sounds.bat file

Thank you! Looks like a great tool! Now I only need to know how to find the folders/files the easiest way. Where´s Steam saving my games? :lunar2019grinningpig:

To answer myself: steamapps/common

It works! :attacked:
