Total War: MEDIEVAL II - Definitive Edition

Has anyone found a solution for the granny2.dll error?
The error message says: granny2.dll has been incorrectly installed as C:\Windows\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval 2 Total War\granny2.dll. To avoid versioning problems granny2.dll must always be in an application specific directory, and never in a system directory.

So far i have verified the game cache, done a system file check and reinstalled about 5 times.

Looking at other forum posts about this issue, they say change the launcher.exe's name to launcher_old and medieval 2 to launcher, but i can only see one exe file, which is the medieval2 exe.
Im no tech genius and all this is mumbo jumbo to me but Im thinking exe name launcher_old and medieval2 to launcher and there is only one exe file, on top of you trying to play medieval2, why you dont just put in medieval2, is beyond me.

Or just ask Granny yourself. Or YouTube.

That's a retail solution, and the Steam version is slightly different to retail.

Ummmm.... try compatibility mode and running any executables directly?

already done that, but with no success, i installed the steam and medieval 2 to my older computer where it worked. So i will close this case.
It may also be a missing package - like, oh, I dunno, Visual Studio Redistrubutable. IDK.

The granny2.dll files in the disk and steam version are identical - version 2.6.0.14
It's connected to RAD Tools, in other words it will be required to play the BIK movies

The devil is in the detail: the path is messed up, check the message carefully: C:\ ! WINDOWS ! \Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval 2 Total War\granny2.dll

Do you actually have Steam installed in the C:\Windows directory? Or just Medieval2 Total War? Follow up what is happening in the windows path.

Yes, its weird but the way to my Medieval 2 goes like this: C:\Windows\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War

And where is your Steam installation? In the same path? Using the windows folder to install games and other stuff is plainly asking for all sorts of weird stuff to happen.

In fact every article that contains your phrase (incorrectly installed) had the same windows path. Inardesco forgot to add 'medieval total war' to his search criteria - it would have been easier to find:
https://www.google.nl/search?ei=MDlOWrmLJ42QvQSl17CgCw&q=granny2.dll+medieval+total+war&oq=granny2.dll+med&gs_l=psy-ab.1.0.0i22i30k1l2.98294.98903.0.101436.4.4.0.0.0.0.222.441.2-2.2.0....0...1c.1.64.psy-ab..2.2.440...0.0.jfVl72OSzGc

Yeah, it is the same path. All my other games work though, might be luck or something.

Elder scrolls apparently has the same problem if installed into this path. My guess is that the games doing fine don't use granny

Yeah i heard that too, but i will stick playing in my other older computer, just dont have the energy to fix it in this one

That would be a nasty piece of work. Tip: next time you install Steam, do it even outside the prgam file directory - it is covered by the virtual store that does all sort of nasty stuff when it comes to mods and add-ons.

The path in my machine is C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War

I've got steam installed on an entirely different hdd. Then again, my C drive is only a 150gb SSD so not a chance a modern game can be installed on there with their 20-60gb hard drive requirements.

So maye if op has a 2nd hard disk available, you should be completely fine if you install steam on that one. Just copy your already installed games somewhere, uninstall steam, reinstall steam on other hard drive, copy in your games and when you launch, steam'll check all files and might even be willing to fetch your missing dll.
