2) unpack the game. its in the tools folder of the game's main folder
3) add a line to the preferences file telling the game to read from the unpacked file
4) seriously, go to TWCenter, there is an amazing amount of info there
Perhaps you should give more information in regards to what it is that you're wanting to do.
Cuz you did it wrong?
https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?76978-How-to-Edit-Units-in-Medieval-total-war-2
I made a "MyMod" folder in programms (x86)/Steam/common/Medieval 2 Total War/mods/data/
and in it is the "data" text folder i created wich contains the export_descr_unit. Like mentioned in the TWC thread. The problem now is that the MedManager say "MyMod" doesnt exist. Now i dont know how to go on....
Simply unpack the files (assuming you've not done that yet).
Then you go and back up the original EDU (meaning you copy and save it in a seperate folder outside your Medieval 2 folder). Like I said, BACK IT UP
Then you change the units you want to change (thus your directory would be /medieval 2 total war/data)
Launch the game, check within custom battle if it worked.
Enjoy.
Are you sure the file isn't on read-only?
I've changed some stats around during an Isengard campaign in DaC since I thought the Warg Riders had waaaaay to little armour and died way to easily. I changed their armour stat and I checked to see if the change was present in the custom battle screen, which it did, and it also existed within the ongoing campaign.
So there's no need to start a new campaign when you edit the edu but you do have to make sure the file is read-only otherwise, I think with vanilla atleast, steam might simply change it back when you launch.
The other thing might be that OP is editing the wrong bits and pieces of the edu but we can't know that unless OP shares with us directly what the original file says and what he changed within the file.
