Instead of changing the launch path, rename one of the kingdoms campaigns in your steam folder/steamapps/common/Medieval 2 total war/mods to something else and rename to Third age folder to the original name of whatever campaign you renamed. Then when launching the game, select that campaign and you can play, if you want to play the original campaign of that name all you have to do is rename the Third Age folder to something else and the Original campaign folder to its original name.
All you have to do it is to make a copy of your medieval2.exe file and name the copy kingdoms.exe
Then use the desktop short cut of the installed mod to start the mod - you only have to do this once and after that can install as many mods (as long as they are kingdoms based) as you want and start them with their desktop short cut
Partly because the desktop shortcut has a 50% chance of actually working on any given computer.
Foldering options / launch options are much more reliable as they work, even on Linux/Mac.
Some installations (sloppily) provide a preconfigured desktop shortcut which only works if M2TW is in the non steam default installation path.
Nowadays any M2 mod should be steam compatible, meaning other then the basic installation you don't have to do anything other then clicking the mod's desktop shortcut. Try my basic modding set up installation and then tell me you still want to go through all the hassle :)

Third Age Total War, if installed correctly, will place itself in a single mod folder. Thus, it won't be traveling onto other computers.
Mainly because this is still a broken way of starting a mod + if you have the time to copy to a kingdoms.exe, you might aswell input a simple line that will convert that allows you to launch the mod using said .exe.
Then again, there are more ways to launch a single mod and to each their own way I suppose.
Right click on Medieval 2 Total War in your Steam Games collection, choose properties and
then click on 'set launch option' in the new window
If you have anything in there then it will very likely stop Bare Geomod from running when you use it's desktop shortcut
