Did you check for daylight time savings?
Also...Don't use the .bat to launch the mod....
Basically...You're doing everything wrong and are just asking all the crashes to come out.
1) Uninstall TATW.
2) Delete all leftover files in /mods
3) Reinstall TATW
4) Use either of these guides to launch your game;

5) Enjoy the game
6) Get DaC/MOS to increase enjoyment of game

So I thank you for your help but I really need advice on how to get the .bat to find "kingdoms.exe" when run as an administrator, or to stop the terrain loading crashes, which are not fixed by running kingdoms in compatability mode for windows 7. IF you don't know, thank you for your time and consideration in replying to my question and have a great Thanksgiving.
Ah, you missed the main point of Inardesco's post.
STOP USING THE DESKTOP SHORTCUT
STOP IT
IT NEVER WORKS ORIGINALLY AND FIDDLING ONLY WORKS ABOUT 33% OF THE TIME*
Launch it by either a) shiny launch options (the first guide) or by b) renaming folders (the second guide).
*It's designed for Non-Steam. You are running Steam. Therefore, things will break horribly.
Also; "crash when loading a map" hmm? That sounds like your installers have gone kaput, if it crashes when you try to start a battle.
and rewriting the .bat to exactly specify the locations of everything on my computer (like instead of "start kingdoms.exe", "start D:\-[Medieval II folder filetrace]\kingdoms.exe
the whole point is you stop using the .bat
So, are you trying to play the game a) through Steam or b) not through Steam?
a); STOP USING THE DESKTOP SHORTCUT. Launch TATW by a different method in the guide.
b); can't really help you there
"EAW?"
I have tried both ways to launch Medieval II (steam knows it's on my drive with the steam library, despite it not being in the steam library), but neither has worked. Steam sends me a "missing executable" error when try the fancy launch options way, and it never liked me replacing the americas campaign with it in the first place
:S
So are things working or are they not?
Can I basically just be a M2 moderator almost solely for the purpose of pinning a FAQ? :P
Honestly instead of a FAQ I just need a header banner saying "STOP USING THE DESKTOP SHORTCUT, READ THE GUIDE PROPERLY"... (also there's other FAQs, like "axethrowers crash the game," "games are incompatible," "what mods are there," "anyone want to play," etc etc :P
... we can dream. Who knows what'll happen - probably Medieval VI: Total War will have come out before CA comes back to these discussions :P
... we can dream. If nothing else, when all hope fails and the event is as likely as a cardboard hammer being used to hammer glass nails, we can dream.
