Battle Sounds Edit/Mod/Fix
So I've always found the battles really unimmersive because they're quiet/silent unless you physically zoom in on individual groups fighting. Just wondered is there a way to fix this? It's not present in other titles and I just find it really irritating.

Your intention was to be a ♥♥♥♥ and you were successful so well done. Maybe the next time you politely ask a question in a thread hoping for a useful answer you'll get a troll and realise how it feels. People who comment with no intention of helping with the sole purpose of being a ♥♥♥♥.

Have you bothered checking TWCenter?
Have you bothered checking Moddb?
Have you bothered checking Google?

Trust me, you won't get any other answer regarding mods than; "Have you checked *insert any of the above*" for very simple reasons.

Yes of course I've checked. Now I'm checking here. It's called being thorough. If a person checks one place and gets the same "have you checked elsewhere" line everywhere they look then they would carry on forever and ever and never get anywhere. Or are you genuinely too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid to understand this?

If you checked there, and found nothing, then there is nothing. Or are you that daft to understand that?

If you look for something in one place it doesn't necessarily entail that it can't be found elsewhere. Ever lost your keys? Not behind the sofa OH WELL THEY MUST NOT EXIST THEN. I think I must conclude that you actually are that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stupid after all. There are plenty of decent Total War mods out there that can't be found on Modb or TWcentre (hence why I'm searching in OTHER ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ places) currently I'm giving the steam forums a go but all I've found thus far is some prick troll who has nothing to useful to contribute.

Welcome to the Medieval 2: Total War Steam Spamorums. This place is more of a last ditch effort to find help for the game, except for maybe strategy and even that can get interesting....

Oh goodie :) Well, if someone gets so upset about a quote from himself than maybe he shouldn't play games but rather have a good long talk with a psychologist or something.

As Akbar alludes to: the text files governing the sounds set the distance (lod) at which the various sounds can be heard. It would require a total rewrite of several of these text files to achieve what you are looking for, never mind generating the required new set of IDX\DAT files which weigh in at 1.6GB (I am not sure if a new set of 'event' files will suffice).

So far I have not come across any mod that bothered about that. Mostly for the reason that Akbar states, I guess.

Text file example - melee sound for foot units from descr_sounds_units_fight.txt:

unit infantry light, heavy, spearmen, skirmish, missile event lod 3 folder data/sounds/SFX/Group/Melee Group_Fight_Small end event lod 40 folder data/sounds/SFX/Group/Melee Group_Fight_Medium end event lod 80 folder data/sounds/SFX/Group/Melee Group_Fight_Large end

[/quote] This is very interesting thank you. I had looked in the files but I'm rubbish with this stuff and didn't even know where to look. Whilst there probably aren't mods that deal with it exclusively I thought it might be an aspect of a larger mod e.g. some mods may be 99% concerned with adding new units and skins but may have additional perks like altering the number of turns per year etc. This is probably beyond my abilities but at least knowing where to look and knowing it is in essence possible is reassuring. Cheers.
