why are the byzantine empire (kingdom of Rome) so0 weak here?
in history classes. they seem to be very perfessional. and i love the whole 1000 block formations 650 skutotai rest ranged 2 three ranks scutotai held spears to form a defensive ranks rest spathas or arming swords. the training was also cool an improved version of the legionarys. here some simple details from this. they needed a anti horse or added spear wall for the swords for them being weak this would help i think. :P https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byzantine_battle_tactics

They are not so weak. It is all in how you play them.

Note: The Byzantines military was better than ever, the rest of the world had just advanced.

looks like the roman infantry stopped advancing after 1200 AD. does make sense that they dont have any sources around the 1300-1400 depictung the infantry. shame.
Yeah. Though The Byzantines had a strong military, they believes their culture, and by association military, to be better than Medieval Europe. As a Result, togas were still around, along with sandals, in 1453.
Because they did not change, they were surpassed.

Byzantines are quite strong in the game, but lots of factors ensured they simply didn't have the money to deal with internal strife and the Seljuks. Then take into account the sack of Constantinople and you have an empire that simply can't do anything since it's has no cash left for military expanses nor military improvement.
The Byz aren't a hugely strong faction, but they're a fun one to play as. M2's most powerful factions are all the Catholic ones, because of the way the game is built, and as such quite powerful factions like the Turks and the Byz just get overlooked.

The Venetian roster is just so much better than the Byz - which is why the Byz are so fun, because you actually have a challenge. (Varidotai aside, which lose their shine in the lategame, the Venetian roster is practically flat-out better).
