I know, in deed is my laptop resolution, but it seems to stretch game picture, doesn't it? At least that`s my impression. I had to say that I'm playing the original gold edition (I have the old physical edition) of the game no the steam edition, so maybe there is a patch fixing it I don´t have, my actual version is 1.03. But how I said before 1366x768(760) seems to strech the game in my opinion.

Well, you can't have the cake and eat it I would say. You either have the side bars to preserve the dimensions or you have stretch\distortion when you use the full screen.

The original is 1024*768 - anything other then that will be stretched and 14:9 will additonally be distorted.

1440*900 is default in my drop down, 1440*1080 would retain the original dimensions.

Have you tried out the wide screen option in the option screen?

aspect ratio and resolution are not the same thing,i'm not going into it all,not least because i can not fully explain it technically to my own satisfaction
normally with computer screens they will fit aspect to resolution automatically or at least you can do it manually, but this does not always work(using HD TV's show this effect much more often,as i do)
my guess is the game(being rather old) simply does not support your aspect to resolution conversion

Steam version is the same or is it fixed? I'm gonna buy it next sales anyway.
if you enter your game key you can have a free steam copy and find out for yourself

Steam is version 1.52 (1.05) - you get the kingdom campaigns DLC for free. See here: http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?688368

Just to note a couple of things...

If you have the disk version you already have the Steam version by adding a steam game and using the key that came with the disk.

Second, MTW2 has two native ratios in multiple sizes 4:3 and 16:9, If the screeen you use has any other size ratio you deal with stretched screen or black lines as you decide in penalty for having a nonstandard screen ratio. That is just simply the way it goes.

I didn't know I could reddem disk key, I did it some hours ago and I already have steam version. And yes, I use wide screen option in video configuration, and game (map and battles) look well, but main menu and other menus in the game still seem to be streched. However, I think I can handle it. Thanks for help and.

You can go into the game files and set the resolution yourself. I use 2048 x 1152 on my laptop for example.
