HOW DO I INSTALL THE RETROFIT MOD?
Hey so I just bought and installed medival total war and the kingdoms expansion for steam in hopes of playing a hotseat campain with my friend.

However as I try to install the retrofit mod then it simply tells me that the installer does not find a valid medival 2 total war installation and just shuts down.

I've tried all the common things like copying the exe and renaming it to kingdoms.exe and just kingdoms but to no avail.

Most of the fixes seems to be if you have already managed to install it earlier before steam messed everything up. Im starting out fresh so I have no mods or anything installed besides the game and kingdoms.

What in the world should I do to make the installer work?

It's called reading the install instructions.

When all else fails, you simply wait for Gigantus to show up.

I know what Gigantus would do!

He would post this:

Aaaaactually Gigantus would have more knowledge of the Retrofit mod and know that the error it's throwing is its funny installer complaining. He hasn't managed to install the mod at all!

Aaaaaaalso, I think OP has a reason to necropost - there was no solution found to this issue, and he had this issue, so he'd like to bring it to the attention of others. I'd prefer he necropost an unsolved topic than he post a new one.

I recall installing Retrofit with minimal hassle - grab the executable and run it. It's quite possibly complaining your M2 folder isn't up to scratch. Or it's quite possibly complaining that Steam has again screwed up everything :|

Have you installed any other mods? no you haven't

Have you tried uninstalling M2 and reinstalling it? (Though this'll take a long time)...

Have you tried running the installer as admin?

.... makes me wonder if I should just upload the Retrofit mod files to Dropbox (only 100 MB core files) or something like that :| Sure, it'd have broken language support, and would thus be in English only, but Retrofit is the fussiest of all fussy mods to install because everything happens under-the-hood - you can't even tell it "My M2 directory is here!"

Please upload it? I've spent more than 10 hours trying to get the mod to work.

I tried all other solutions there is(including creating kingdoms.exe) and nothing worked. There is a mod that includes retrofit but I only want retrofit feature and indeed it is the fussiest mod out there.

Funny thing is, I have retail version and it still says it can't find kingdoms.

Has Retrofit installed, or is Retrofit failing to install?

Drop me a friend request (& a comment, because I'm forgetful like that) & I'll see what I can do.

just follow this guide: http://mtwgg.boards.net/thread/58/retrofit-mod-installation-guide

or do this:
1.- download retrofit mod
2.- copy your medieval.exe and rename it kingdoms, then paste it in the medieval folder (this will trick the installator verification)
3.- Install the mod
4.- In steam right click medieval, open properties, and click where it says launching parameters then paste this "--features.mod=mods/retrofit --io.file_first"

that's it, you will see it still ask what game you want to play, just open original medieval and you will see that in the title screen (not the loading one) will say retrofit mod.
By god, MTWGG on proboards, haven't seen that in a long time.

If memory serves the installer looks for a registry entry and not the executable - like all my installers do to determine the install path. Unlike with my installers however you don't get an option to set the install path manually.
Somehow your registry is scrambled and as I am not sure which key this installer is looking for only an uninstall, clean up of the registry and a re-install (of M2TW) will do the trick.
