How do you folks beat the game on hard?
I am playing with the starting group: a warrior, cleric, mage and archers. I can barely survive on Standard , let alone normal or hard. so, how are you beating this game on hard?

It takes practice and good tactics to complete the game on the hard or the harder modes, The early game is of course the toughest, so while it might be slightly breaking the rules, feel free to use standard until you get your feet moving.

Though if you want hard only, it's a dps race early game, you can't afford to give them time to act.
On harder difficulties the most difficult hurdle to get through is the early game. You probably won't be able to do the first story mission immediately cause the boss will just rip you a new one. I recommend taking side quests to fish up small, easy fights to get a few levels so you can unlock essential abilities. Additionally it may be worth searching the over world for treasure sites to try to scrounge up some decent gear before attempting to progress the story.

One of the most... befuddling things about the Monster's Den Franchise is Garin's genius design of enemies and just how it is that higher difficulty is ALL THEY NEED to show their true potential to be a colossal nightmare.

And this isn't just in Godfall's case either. Both Book of Dread and Chronicles were the same way. Higher difficulty doesn't give them new toys or abilities or even faster Quickness. It gives them higher health and damage output.

In the case of United Forces, certain enemy mix ups are at play too, but that's a whole different dungeon to delve into than in this instant.

And in Godfall's case, the Quickness mechanics also become FAR more important to finagling and making sure certain fast units get accordingly neutered. They all seem to run more hog wild.

Have you noticed how it is that in the early game, The Renouncer's Oni and Cutthroats raw Quickness is the whole reason the fight gets lost so fast? It's NOT just Deep Cuts and Throw Nets bleeding you out.

And if it's NOT them, it's the Free Friars dealing almost full Heals, Wards that nullify almost all damage you deal, and Bless status on the whole enemy team for everyone getting 20% higher damage. Or Witches and their Witch Brews giving 10 Power Steal per hit on top of 10 Power Regen plus healing. That and Magic Bolts from both Witches and Friars for range and Hex being one of the most devastating statuses in the game.

And then you have Thugs using Bully (Keep Up) on any unit it wants and using Off Hand Strikes for 2 hit combos with a Regular Attack/Power Attack since Off Hand uses only half the Action Clock. Plus Bandit Archers using Hide for massive hits at ANY range barring if you strip their Accuracy out.

If you don't hit every small group and hit the big ones last, you do NOT get anywhere. You only do well if they aren't too fast or if they don't have a dedicated healer. Don't attempt Flawless Victories early on since you just don't have the tools to do so.

So yeah, take the other's advice. Do some grinding for progression. In this game, it's in no way shameful because Garin is all too mindful of the difficulty he can pose on the player that is NOT self-inflicted by your own mistakes.
