Beating the game with max custom difficulty scale
It should be possible to beat if you are very patient. Probably spending farming on city ruins. Then slowly do easiest side missions and so on. But it would take hundreds of hours lol.

Or is there some easier way to do this?

Do you mean max difficulty from the very beginning? I'm playing on max difficulty, but I started on some standard difficulty setting and increased it gradually when game started to became too easy. I recently cleared dwarven world dungeon on max difficulty, It took me 100+ hours to get there.

Good job dude. Yeah I were thinking about max difficulty from start until end.

I don't think it's possible. I tried to start on max difficulty right now just to test it, and two 1 level guys annihilated my party of 5 (5th was from quest). I only got to hit them twice.

Maybe you can like get misiion, search for 1 guy party in dungeon, kill it, abandon mission when there is no 1 guy parties available and repeat, very slowly gaining experience that way until you able to defeat two guy parties, etc.

Edit: just defeated 1 guy party, so I think it's possible. Don't know any easier way yet.

Can spend a lot time on City Ruins and only get good ones out of it. Slowly building up.

Still looks like masochism to me. Game itself doesn't actually become harder cause there is no lose condition, you'll just spend more time grinding.

True, I agree with you about that. Just thinking theoretically.

My guess is that if you create more than 2 teams and put your monthly status in training, you'll easily get experience.
In this case, the activity party will have to wander off-map and look for 'Spoils of Battle' to secure gold.
This is an untested theory.

That may be possible, but only if you are able to acquire enough influence to buy the party expansion. I don't know how much you start with, but with the slow careful grind they others talked about, you may be able to pull that off. You could definitely do it once you manage to get the 2nd party though, since all you need to do is wait for each month to end to get free xp. But also as stated above, there's no reward for playing like this and as such not much incentive to test it unless you were really curious lol

I've actually began testing this challenge to see if it's possible. I'm not sure how you managed to win even a 1 guy fight. This method is not (if so barley and would take much longer) possible.

I posted about this method a few days ago and have done a test for the last several hours. I skipped the tutorial to start immediately in the Overworld map, but before I commented that you would need a way to obtain influence to unlock a 2nd party slot. I have managed, after about 6 or 7 in game months of wondering back and forth looking for lucky random encounters, to get the 300 influence required to: Buy the quarter master (50), Buy the Writ of expansion (200), and lastly buy the Training grounds so I can set a party to gain XP each month (50).

At this point all there is to do is click back and forth on the map waiting for time to pass and auto leveling up you party until you have enough skill points to make an OP team. Gathering the equipment will probably require you to play some lower tier missions and slowing improving your gear until you can reach purple or orange tier. So the final verdict is...... YES! It is possible to beat the hardest custom difficulty starting from a fresh save.

Lol nice! Don't forgot about City Ruins as well. IIRC it's the best place on overworld you can find Shards and Tonics (Quickness obviously). Can also find influence there and other stuff.

But if you don't want to involve a lot save/reload and simply run Ironman, so it's like other said you have to do stuff without fighting monsters. Buy Shards and Exotic gear with influence and Tonics from shop.

You must know 100% when you are ready to start doing quests lol.

edit:
I also did a test (Ironman). There is one problem with gold and monthly profits so you will likely end with a lot debt. So the only way to progress early is lucky with influence and random encounters. Forgot about gold for a while. Or maybe not?

edit2:
Can solve this problem by retire 3 other party members and use only 1 for overworld farming. Slow gold gain each month that way. Until you can have one party for training.

Final verdict:

Like the other guy here, I have reached to the point for team training. Also found a few purples and pink on the overworld. Yes, it's possible to win on Ironman mode!
