Disney Movies VR

Disney Movies VR

Terrible, torturous experience.
I tried to leave a review with the text below, but for some reason, it wouldn't take.

Overall--it sucks.

I like the method of making selections. A dot appears at what you're looking at, wait a few seconds as the selection highlights, and your selection is made. No need for controllers.

The best was the 5 minute (or so) "Trust in Me" segment--though short, it was impressive and entertaining--had a sense of vertigo from the apparent height, along with an ending jump scare. The Jakku Desert Race was also a great 60 second experience.

But that's it. There were two red carpet movie premier 360 segments where you stand around in 360 VR at a bunch of people in front of a movie theater waiting for celebrities from the Jungle Book and Avengers Civil War to arrive--about as exciting as watching grass grow--leave those on YouTube 360 and keep them out of VR apps. There was also a 360 kinda of discussion/interview with the stars of the Jungle Book. Again, fine on YouTube 360--but keep it out of my Vive.

Finally, there were two segments, one a short scene from the Jungle Book from the perspective of Mogli, and one that followed BB8 from Star Wars around in different scenes. The Jungle Book scene had potential, but was disruptive as any turn of the head caused the ground to shift slightly, risking dizziness and naseausness, ruining the entire scene. Same held true with the Jakku Spy (the BB8 follow-around), with the additional flaw that anything close was highly distorted. At one scene, in the Millenium Falcon, BB8 shot his hooks out, one flying right past you. It could have been cool, except there was a horrible curve in the wire that made the whole scene just laughable as some sort of sick joke--and not entertaining.

My opinion and recommendation: Disney and other such companies need to hurry up and figure VR out. If this is your idea for the future of VR, you will fail miserably. Note where I made praise--that is where you should go. If you are going to make live-action scenes (like the Jungle Book and Jakku Spy scenes), fix the instability of moving your head before you release it to the public as some kind of torture device.

Funny thing is--if all you had was the "Trust in Me" and "Jakku Desert Race" and NOTHING else--I would have given high praises (other than for a lack of clarity in the "Jakku Desert Race" scene). But because you pawned off crap on me in the name of free--I cannot recommend this.

Why keeping it out? It's a good use of watching 360 videos.

Better having more than less and having the possiblities to choose what to watch.

It's free. No one is interested in a long critical review for a a few free short videos.
