I have tried several times a bigger hook, but the game say to me: " the hook is too big for the fish of this area".
For me the solution is another : another bait or another fishing technique...or other...the time ?
They're not cheating. On a level 13 profile, I just caught a 58.95 kg fish using:
Rod 45 kg
Reel 31.9 kg
Line 22.50 kg
Hook (size #2/0) 43.00 - 115.80 kg

1) I did the experiment at Taupo Lake on normal difficulty - I'm not very familiar with San Zeno.
2) Using a boat lets you cover a lot of ground quickly and the hook size hint will disappear if a fish is interested.
3) I initially tried hook size #3/0 but changed to #2/0 due to lack of interest, (more info below).
4) I did a similar experiment at Taupo Lake about 8 months ago and I forget the exact details, but basically...
Hook size and *level are important factors.
level 13 - fish size A + hook size B = fish not interested.
Level 14 - fish size A + hook size B = fish is interested.
* It's actually your experience points and not your profile level which is the key factor - however, they are very closely linked.
There wasn't an improvement in mechanics yet. Changes in December 2023 were only about lures size to attract proper fish size. Thats all.
