How to bottom feed

The in-game help page is pretty bare-bones. How tf do you set up a pole with feeders, and how do you know when you have a bite?
I've tried a few things, and my rod keeps resetting "fish escaped no strike"

There doesn't seem to be a way to throw a pic in this thread, no.
I have a feeder rod, a bottom reel, line, a feeder, feeder bait, a hook, and a leech. It wasn't clear if I need the leech or not, but both ways I get my rod reset with a "fish escaped no strike" notification.

i've never bottom fished irl with a pod, but I guess irl you can feel the rod.

Hmm never heard about using bottom fishing without rod pods. Personally I started with no bait signalizers but you can see then the rod tip action when fish strike/bite the lure.

My experience with bottom feeding is very limited to catfish. I've used the bells, but often I'd just hold the rod and wait to feel it. I am not an avid fisherman, though, so a lot of the in-game tools are new to me.
But, this makes sense. I think earlier I wasn't baiting the rod, and then when I baited it I may have been using the wrong bait. I appreciate that you're involved with your community

I've catfished for many years. in MIssouri we just put a couple sinkers, a big hook, and bait (I use chicken liver mostly.) No floats. But I've never heard of a feeder nor know anyone that uses them. Is it the same as Stink Bait maybe? We just throw the line out, grab a beer, and wait for something to take off with it. Could be a cat, sometime snapping turtles, sometimes alligator gar that just cuts your line if you don't use a leader. And a Rod Pod? I think we just call them sticks here. They're free 😆 I am enjoying the game though, learning new stuff is a good thing.
