Turning your back on the fish also helps. (If you do turn away, release the bail arm while doing so).
1) Tension Break
some use 100% drag and drag release (Center Mouse button releases the drag) at 100% drag you gotta release pretty quick it takes some practice but it works. I use drag at 71% and it gives me a little bit of time to react, but there is a bit more line run out. Don't forget to reset the drag with a left click. Those Big ones can tear off a lot of line in a hurry!
2) Line Run Out
The key is to make that rod work for you. I mean really bend the heck out of it! Even to the point of turning almost 180 degrees away from the fish. (as Captain Black Suggest you should momentarily release the drag when turning). You will really see a BIG reduction in the line run out. Of course as the fish tires and the run out stops turn back SLOWLY (no need to release the drag) towards the fish so you can see when it begins to start its second run. I haven't broken a rod yet. LOL Good Luck!
i use reel in speed MAX I also use a pumping action by tapping the Right mouse key while reeling.
