Buy the sakura queen rana soft bait lure to use for practice, it never sinks and sits on the surface of the water. Just cast out and let it chill there, and then I want you to right click every 2 seconds with good rhythm. That was twitching. now start reeling in while doing that same exact right click every 2 seconds. Thats lift and drop. Last one you need a lure that can sink, let it hit bottom after casting very far. Start reeling in at level 2 or 3 speed then stop once you see the word bottom go away...when you see it touch bottom again start reeling a lil bit and stop...rinse repeat for stop and go.

Hi, I'm a newbie. I have been fishing in betty and powell lakes and able to catch trouts, bass and
crappies. I don't use any fishing techniques because I catch them by just casting and waiting. I learned abaut those ones and tried them, but it seems they are not necessary.

Can you tell me why?

Different times of the day, different weather conditions, different fish at different times, all these factor into what the fish will want to eat and what they will be interested in striking. sometimes twitching with a spoon is the way to go but then the weather turns to rain or wind picks up and it gets cloudy and now the fish won't strike twitching so no you try one of the others or switch to softbait or switch to floater like you got good at. sometimes at the higher up lakes starting with powell if you fish for longer than an hour the fish start getting picky and cautious forcing you to change your presentation and move to new spots more often. GOOD LUCK.

If you use hook with a bait you do not need to use a retrieve technique. Once you switch out to a lure you need to use a retrieve that is recognised by the game in the bottom right corner of your screen. It will have bars (up to 3) indicating how effective your retrieve is, along with it's name (straight, straight and slow, stop and go, twitch, lift and drop and so on).

Yes, after writing that comment I tried using a lure for a change and applied twitching. Indeed it works and it's much more fun. Thanks for the help.
