I tried FSW and didn't care for it myself. This game hs Very Positive feedback for a reason so that says something.
They only use American terms and tackle because its an American made game or designed for that market. It doesn't bother me in the least what they call tackle in UFS. Its not "real tackle" if its American its real tackle period no matter what its called or where its from. UFS is based on the fishing there not here.
I enjoy catching a Zander or a Crucian Carp.. seeing fish ( even if its pretend) In real life I will most likely never have the pleasure of reeling in.
I'm Un hijacking this thread now and going back to simply suggesting a few ideas.
Happy Thanksgiving ( If it applies)
fishsim world is reskinned Euro fishing and just as crap. Will last 5 minutes until the complaints start then they will abandon it as they do on all their Dovetail games
I just want a game that is similar to the way I fish IRL. I have never heard of a float weight or a wobbler. I wish they would advertise it as European style fishing, then I wouldn't have any expectations for them to cater to north america. I bet Europeans would feel similar if they bought a fishing game that advertised carp but all the mechanics were that of bass fishing. Remeber that this game has a bass on the front cover... misleading advertising if you ask me...
I think there was a miscommunication in my post. I was referring to Dovetail Games, who wikipedia says is headquatred in the UK. I think you thought I was talking about the UFS devs. I have yet to see them implement anything specifc to US fishing besides locations / fish species. Baits specific to the US would be a longshot based on what I've seen.
I never played Euro Fishing because that is not the style fishing I want, so I have no experience with it. Doesn't bother me if its reskinned, the whole point of a SIM is to look as realistic as possible. Fishing around in the UFS speed boat is far from realistic to me. You would think with a bass on the front cover that the game would have a bass boat instead. It is pretty smart of Dovetail Games to go after a new market who might not notice the reskins. Right now it is the only real fishing game on Steam with US style skins... beside maybe FP. Also Fishing Sim World is sponsered by a ton of fishing companies that I use IRL.... like Missle Baits, Nichols Lures, and Sunline... So I stand by my recomendation for someone who wants US style fishing to get Fishing Sim World.
Its far from a new market man lol I been playing fishin games since the 90's
I enjoy the change of pace and feel of the game.
In Fisherman Fresh Water Trophies kept me happy for a long time.
I was looking for a game to relaxe more so than a Bass Masters style game.
To each his own.
Fish On!
In Fisherman was a wonderful game...........I booted it up and lamented the graphics.....I do LOVE this game, and the fact the Dev does listen to people (maybe not everything) but from how it started to how it is now..........this game has gone from good to Great.
I wouldn't recommend that game to any angler . They are clueless but unless you are a real hardcore angler you wouldn't know how unrealistic it is. It is not a sim so stop telling people it is. It is an awful clunky arcade 1 a chuck no matter what you use junk cashcow game. Made by idiots for idiots :D
This game has spoons and spinners, I thought OP said this was eurobaits only???
Amongst all recent fishing games, this game is the best received, For a Reason.
I meant that Dovetail was focusing on the US market with the recent game, instead of the European market they already hit with Euro Fishing. I can understand not everyone is looking for a bassmasters type game, it just rubs me the wrong way that theyd put a bass on the front and not focus on bass fishing.
I'm a few hours in and I still am digging Fishing Sim World wayyy better. I would consider myself a pretty hardcore angler, I'm a fly fishing guide during the summer in Montana and spend my winters in Missouri bass fishing. I probably fish about 150 days out of the year because I get paid to do it. I definitily am guility of being an idiot though!

Both of these games are suppoed to be "sims" I am just giving my unbias opinion as an (american) angler that has played both. I could go on and on about reasons UFS is unrealistic. The only area where I can tell that UFS wins is with the graphics.
In Fishing Sim World, I love how I can use a frog or popper and twich it over the top of the water like I do bass fishing in real life. Its super exciting to see the bass chase it and bite. They also have spinnerbaits (not spinners) and plastic baits.
To test the realism all I did was take some casts where I'd expect largemouth (near weeds)... where I'd expect smallmouth (undwater rocks/structure).... and where I'd exepct walleye (deep with a spoon)... In all situations I caught the species I was expecting and didn't catch the other species. To me, this is all the realism I need (and something UFS needs to work on). In Ultimate Fishing Simulator I went out in the middle of the lake, probably 50+ feet and I was catching smallmouth bass left and right. That is pretty damn unrealistic unless they are chasing schools of baitfish out into the open water.
In UFS, the fish species don't seem to be seperated based on their species' needs. In the mountan level there are brown trout in an alpine lake! In the US, brown trout are never found in alpine lakes like that. Also IRL the trout would be stacked up at the inlet to the lake. When I see the underwater view I don't see any realistic fish behavior whatsoever.
I feel like the poeple who are recieving this game so well don't actually fish for these species IRL. Maybe the carp dynamics are really good, but I wouldn't know because I picked this game up to fish for trout/bass.
I have no favour for either game. I played both and for me they are hopeless. Any fishing game that doesn't come with a catapult as standard gear stock is just a total waste of time tbh. If they cannot even get ground roots tackle correct it's only downhill from there
UFS is recieved well purely down to the fantastic Development team who act within hours on any problem and really try hard to please everyone sadly they lack the depth of knowledge to make this anything other than a better than average arcade type set up. Try float fishing in FSW total mess. Not much better in UFS but for different reasons. Good Strike -Bad strike says it all. It's utter nonsense. But if it floats your boat that is all that matters . be careful the makers are devious crooks. DLC everything and it's all the same reskinned junk that has the same effect no matter what it says it does.
You hit the nail on the head. Having a dev team that listens and makes changes is awesome, and I think these guys are doing great. I tried making suggestions about a year ago to make things more realistic but I didn't get anywhere. People seemed to care more about multiplayer chat, ice fishing and graphics. I think what I want would be a hard change to make, they would have to revamp the entire fish AI system. (which would probably piss-off alot of people off who think its right the way it is)
Maybe I haven't noticed because I don't float fish. I find it crazy that you can set the hook too early when float fishing in any of these fishing games. All the float fishing I've done IRL (catfish, bass, trout, sunfish) you strike once you see your float go under. You try to be fast, and you can never be too fast.
I actually like the good strike/bad strike mechanic when lure fishing. IRL it's possible to get a bad hookset, especally with troublehooks or when the plastic bait is skinhooked. With float fishing I don't think it matters, so you are probably right about that being unrealistic.
If the fish mechanics and everything were equal between the two games, I would pick Fishing Sim World purely for the skins... like the bass boat and real branded lures. They just added a bow mounted trolling motor (!!) on the bass boats which is pretty cool too.
I see where yall are coming from, but I can't call UFS a better "fishing simulator" than FSW. Maybe if I fished it Europe it would be a better simulator in my eyes.
