Today, the only Marlins that can be caught is the small one 100-130kg, the 200kg+ run out more than 400m and break the line all the time, just broke my line 3 times just now with 200kg+
for squid i tried all technics, lift n drop, straight retrieve and twitching, with all squid lure size 9/0 10/0, 11/0 12/0 can't get a single bite, when i switch to float with hook 12/0 i get bite in less than 5mn, so yes there is a problem with lure.
Just see how 90% of the Marlins was caught yesterday after all the patchs, it was with float, 90% of the player gave up with squid coz they was not working.
Record yesterday before all the patchs was done in afternoon, 637kg
after the last afternoon patch and the last patch yesterday, no more 250kg+ was caught
and today i don't see any 150kg+ caught in 2h irl this morning
that's simple Marlins have been boosted too much after the last patch, they re too strong now and can't be caught with the gear lvl21, 400m on the spool is not enoughg now.
This is still a problem. Unlock larger gear, heavier line an the same fish you used to catch with little fight now act like a whale on even larger equipment. An i to am about 3/50 on marlin. An 2 of the 3 were caught using the heaviest bottom rod/reel in the game. I am level 20 now and own every rod/reel in the game up to that point. No matter what combo i use i can not get casting reels to reel in Marlin. Yes i know all about the line captivity. Been there done that. Learn the hard way. No matter what i do he either breaks the line or i run out of line. Yet for some reason a buddy of mine says he reels in 1200+lb Marlin with a 120lb level16-17 rod/reel combo. Ive tried the tricks ive watched and been told.. like holding you pole off to the side etc etc.. but none of them work. Oh and another thing.. Why do the lures no work the same in every map? meaning on map a lure see to work fine and reel in fine. The next map i reel in 20ft and the lure is at the top of the water already. An why do all the lures surface 50-70foot before they are even reeled in all the way? An what the heck is with this deal? Is this their way of telling is we are using too big/small of a hook?

An i dont know what they were thinking but there is nothing realistic about a fish circling around the bait for 5+minutes. An it looks horrible.

Started out with 9/0 hooks and slowly worked my way up to 12/0. Sure sometimes I got spooled but that is to be expected.
Lures are the way to go in my opinion, I was able to land much larger Marlin on a lure than on hook and cut bait using the same rod/reel/line set up.
Not sure if you are doing this, but the lure will stay deeper if you point your rod down as low as possible when reeling it in. I had Marlin take my lure very close to the boat doing this.
Edit: For the record I just use Straight retrieve, 2nd lowest reel speed setting.
Funny you mention that about "realistic:. I just started my 3rd profile on realistic last night. Ill try what you said an let ya know. But at this point i am getting so irritated i took a break and started that other profile. What is weird too is i have all the lures "soft squid" unlocked and i have ever caught 2 fish. 1 i landed was a mahu i landed, the other was a marlin i lost.
