Any tips for a beginner?
I've been playing a few hours, and I haven't caught a lot of fish. Maybe.. 15? I've got basically no money. I've only gained 1 level. I've got the second lake unlocked, but no auger to actually use it haha.

I've been playing about 60 minutes this morning and have caught.. 3 fish.

I've mostly used flies and maggots with a hook/flaot in the default lake (on normal, not realistic). Tried the default spinner for 20 minutes and didn't even get a single fish interested.

Twitch the line now and then /wobble the float to grab the fishes attention, dont buy to early licences/larger hooks till your ready to. Try the far side of the lake for smaller fish.

I just give up. I've been fishing for another hour and not even a bite. Game is pretty, but I don't have the patience for this lol

I didn't expect to get 0 bites in about 100 minutes of playing.

Why do I need a new profile?

Thankfully, some guy gave me advice and told me to just splurge on a $50 something spinner. And I've caught like 6 Bull Trout in the last 30 minutes or so. I've actually got about $300 in the bank now and the spinner seems to be working a bit better.

Most of the time the biggest problem at the beginning is the hook size. The starter hook's default size is #8 if I remember correctly. That is a bit too small. Set your starter hook's size to it's max ( I think it's #2 ). That will improve your catch rate. But from there go up to 1/0 to 3/0 as soon as you can and you will start to catch a lot of fish at Betty. Remember to upgrade your line accordingly as you will catch bigger fish with the bigger hooks. 3/0 is a good size for high bite rate with medium and small fish there. Eventually you can go up to 5/0 to 7/0 for the biggest at Betty. But on 7/0 your bite rate will drop a bit again. For best bite rates at Betty 3/0 to 5/0 is best. Don't forget to buy a landing net when you start using 5/0 and upwards. You will start to catch bigger fish that requires a landing net to land them.

PS: Don't bother with going lake jumping too quickly. Stay at Betty for a long time and build up your money , level and equipment. At Betty you can catch fish upwards of 20kg+. Don't be in a rush to go to other lakes to quickly. You can built up a lot of money , level and gear at Betty. On most of my profiles I done I was around level 12 before I even started with other lakes. Also , when you do start to visit other lakes you don't have to do it in a specific order. Do them in the order you like. Check what species each lakes has. For example the 2nd lake ( Betty Winter ) you can skip at first. You don't have to go there and buy an Auger. You can for example go to Lake Powel or Acha or whatever other lake first when you unlocked them and go back later to winter lakes. Do the lakes in order of the species you would like to target and what you want to fish and when you do get into a money bind go back to Betty with you 5/0 for a while. Betty is the highest catch rate with lots of fish and you can go back to it as often as you like to get money if you get in a bind. But imo experience , having done 6 profiles , there is no money issues in this game. It is a bit tight at the start but if you don't rush and don't buy every thing as it unlocks you will quickly start to build up that bank account and have enough money for what you need.

Stick with the first lake until you hit about lvl 10. I think the biggest hook you can use for trout is 7/0, so stick with a 3/0-4/0-5/0 until you have good enough equipment to land a 50lb rainbow trout on a 7/0. I prefer to fly fish for trout, but that will be a bit advanced for you at the moment. Keep running a spinner, and reel it in at 2-3 reel speed. Stick to the middle area of the lake (by the rocks) where the water is deeper.

I moved to the ice fishing lake with a spoon and everything just worked much better.
