Fly Fishing Methods?
Is there any luring method other than straight when fly fishing? I can do them with other lures, but when I'm trying to fish for amberjack and rainbow runners with a fly and I can't seem to get any of the luring methods to show up while using a fly. Is there a specific type of fly line I should use?

I know it's kinda unrealistic, I'm just having fun.

Also, thanks for the great game; you guys update like crazy! I have yet to see an early access title get so much work done on it so frequently, the UI update that rolled out yesterday is fantastic.

try using a sinking tip line it works with dry and sinking flies there. cast out and just lift the rod up and down up and down dont reel. it will twitch when you get 3 stars up. fish will bite works for me good luck

Interesting, I didn't think to try stationary luring methods. I'm not sure if it's an actual difference or just in my head, but it feels like fly lures take a little longer to pick up on luring methods (i've done a lot of fishing irl, but never tried fly). Now I just have to get the hang of the fights with fly reels, it's harder in a good way.
Thank you and have a nice day!

That's a very good hint. I didn't know it. Thank you.

Thanks salmo man! This explains why I keep getting that error at the bottom of the screen telling me 'No fish will bite'! LOL

Yea, this method is definitely really effective, but it seems limited to the fly; I'm not having success reproducing the bites on another lure.

Also your english isn't too bad, if you want a native speaker to practice on, hit me up; not sure what your native languge is but I'm always open to exchanging language practice with others.

I can't catch a thing with fly. I don't do it IRL so am completely clueless with it. I will try that static twitching though , haven't tried that.

If you're having issues with a fly, try starting out on betty lake and use a small hook (use a straight retrieve, second slowest speed); it takes a bit of getting used to, I still cant land a lot of the big fish I manage to hook on a fly.

Fly fishing is incredibly complex . Mastering the cast and the presentaion of the fly is the most important aspect. It is supposed to mimic flies landing and taking off from the water surface and in some cases staying too long for its own good . Dry fly float on the surface. Cast and land the fly in the same area to draw the attention of the fish 3-4 recasts and let the 5th one settle on the surface and slowly twitch it back stopping for a second and the carrying on as if it was a fly trying to get off the water. Wet flies will be below the surface a little bit like the lures but retrieval is a lot slower remember its a fly or nymph a tiny insect so the don't swim like fish nypmhs will go from the bottom of the water to the top to get oxygen and then sink slowly back down so lift and drop would be perfect method for those. Wet flies from top of the surface as they start to sink right the way to the bottom let it sink to where you want and the slow retrieve stop and go would mimic the action. Is as best I can describe it without over complicating matters :)

Thank you for this tip. Just tried it on a dry fly using 3-4 recast and then at 5th cast just twitch; I landed a 15lb rainbow trout at Betty Lake. Method works!
