The game is designed to and requires virtual reality to play. This is needed for mechanics like balancing the boat with your own body and being able to grab mainsheet and tiller with your hands.
In the future, if more people are interested, we may investigate adding optional non-VR mode. Anyone else would be interested in it?

this would definitely be the first thing i bought for vr though. had it on my wishlist since jan 2018.
sadly for both of us, it just doesn't make any sense to buy it without being able to play it.
looks like great fun.
This game has been on my wish-list and will be one of the first ones I pick up when I finally get a VR headset.
However, one solution to make it controller friendly:
Left analog thumb could control sailor weight shift, while the right analog thumb could control view and highlight/display icon when the pointer focuses on a line or cleat. One button (Y or LB could release the sheet/line and the (A or RB) button could pull in the line and sheet. The trigger buttons could control the rudder, d pad control the dagger-board, etc.
I'm sure most current users would like to see the developer focus on the current game. I'll be getting VR eventually, so save some wind for my sails!
After watching videos on youtube it looks awesome but it seems eSail & Sailaway are the only options without VR. Actually came to the discussion area today hoping to find a mod or non-vr patch of some kind that would allow Regatta to work so I could buy it instead.
VR headsets and GPUs ( computer required to run them ) are getting cheaper - I really encourage you to come aboard and join us in VR :-)
