Desired movement scheme:
Headset Directional Movement
Options->Controls-> Movement Type “Headset”
Players move in the direction that their headset is facing.
Controller Directional Movement
Options -> Controls -> Movement Type “Controller”
Players move in the direction that their movement hand is pointing, instead of the direction the headset is facing.
Note: “Right/Left Hand Movement” options swap which hand controls movement and rotation, as well as all other functionality attached to that controller hand.
Options -> Controls -> Strafe
On - Players may press left and right to strafe.
Off - Players may only move forward and backwards.
Note: For controllers without joysticks (Vive), multi-directional movement is not supported at this time. However, you may still use strafe to move left and right.
Still even with that options I can't use the thumbstick to move diagonal, which is frustrating.
I don't know if its the same with the wands but if its works on it, maybe our problem could be that the wands got a trackpad not a thumbstick which could cause some compatibility issues. If you were to develop the game on the vive that is.
True we got free movement with that option but that is works only because I point in the direction I'd like to move, which would solve our problem only that It would look stupid if I were to keep pointing in the direction I head on my way to work you see.
Update:
Oh I see tho its not even works with the oculus touch which is got joysticks.
