Permadeath?

Hey! Loving the game so far, but I'm being forced to start over again for a second time, which I don't really want to do know I may have to start over again a 3rd, 4th, 5th time, etc...

So first time I died was fairly early on (first run-in with mother), and I didn't think too much of having to start over since i figured I just hadn't reached a check-point yet. So I started over again and made it much further (Using the tape on the fireplace) and quit out. My save game was still there next time I played and I picked right up where I left off, but died again (The apparition in the hallway got me just after it got the mom) and the game directed me to either start over or load a saved game. But my earlier saved game is no longer listed, it's been erased, so it seems I have to start over again.

Is this really how the game is supposed to be? Is it because I chose the highest difficulty?

Update: As a workaround I found the savegame file "PATLS Save File.sav" and renamed it to "PATLS Save File 2.sav" and was able to basically pick up where I had left off and beat the game! :D

thanks for the info. So, NORMAL MODE die as many times as it takes. ARCADE MODE: Die 3 times start over. HARDCORE MODE: Die 1 start over. truly appreciate the support.

Does it mean in hardcore mode we have to finish the game in one session or does the game save at some waypoint but if we died we start from the beginning?

the game will save, but if you die once in hardcore mode you will have to start over completely.the new update coming will show you a save icon for reference.
