I agree. They did make the area a bit lighter during an update, but that was all they did. I tried playing again after full release and even knowing where the key was, and with the lighting change it was still really hard to spot.
To be honest no game should allow you to proceed from an area you can't return to if you haven't picked up a required item. To me that is a game breaking bug. I can't believe the devs didn't fix this. Would it have been so hard to have a door not open unless that key was picked up? Or to have placed the key in a more noticable, less random place?
