Missable Key (Spoliers)
So after having to restart for the third time in a row after becoming totally stuck at the point where you receive the cassette recorder, I had fully explored all available rooms and the rest of the doors were locked, I decided to give in and watch a walkthrough up until this point.

It seems I was missing the key that can be found in the glass display, directly after your first encounter with the lady of the house chases you into the closet and the ghost dimension.

Now I admit that it was partly my fault for not being very observant but in my defence that part of the game was extremely dark for me. Even after knowing the key was there I could barely see it, and the lighter didn’t seem to illuminate it at all.

I think it is a tad unfair to have an item that is necessary to the advancement of the game, in a place that you can not backtrack and return too if you miss it. The game should not allow you to return back to the normal house until you have found all essential items in this case. If that is not possible, could the devs at least make the key much more noticeable, what with all the windows smashing, and books flying at this point it is easy to be distracted and run right passed it.

We did a playthrough with our friends last night and we stumbled upon this issue too. Friend who played trough that part of the game did not pay much attention to the sides and just walked trough therefore missing the key. After running around the house for 1h, I checked out other ppl walktroughs and figured that we missed a key. Game-breaking glitch. Cannot progress any further.

Hey, first off thank you for the support! honestly appreciated. We have noticed that for many people it is too dark, and for creative reasoning you can't use the flashlight in that section. We are working on getting the Brightness tab fixed. There is a bug and it will be fixed in a future update. thank you again for the support.

Sorry for the necro post, but I just ran into this myself, so it's still not fixed yet... the proper way to fix it would be to not let the player move to the next area until they've picked it up.

I agree. They did make the area a bit lighter during an update, but that was all they did. I tried playing again after full release and even knowing where the key was, and with the lighting change it was still really hard to spot.

To be honest no game should allow you to proceed from an area you can't return to if you haven't picked up a required item. To me that is a game breaking bug. I can't believe the devs didn't fix this. Would it have been so hard to have a door not open unless that key was picked up? Or to have placed the key in a more noticable, less random place?

First off, thanks all for the support. The key you are all referring too, is not a required item. it is only required if you are playing the alternate ending. it does not prevent you from finishing the game so its not a non-prog. we absolutely understand your disappointment, but now that you know where everything is, do a quick run through and try to complete the alternate ending. the Scare Engine will deliver different random scares outside of the main story beats, so the game will feel slightly different. thanks again.

Yes, sorry, I stumbled on that information after I made this post! I just assumed that I'd ruined my save because I wasn't sure what I was supposed to do and saw that I'd missed a key in that area :P
