How do you build a communications base?

I have no clue why they got rid of these. That means the only way to monitor an enemy is with satellites which I believe cover a smaller area. It used to be that you could monitor enemies including submarines with these.

Im not sure about this but i think i remember a discussion on a forum about what communication bases do in game. And that was the only thing we actually found on it. I cant confirm that launching satellites has the same effect, but thats what i think. Cause i find it a little weird that all the big nations have only one of these orbiting around our Earth.
Hmmm that's interesting. There is a lot of people including myself that is not entirely sure what all of the benefits are of the space program. I had never considered communications posing as missile defense. I knew that missile defense was a thing but I never really understood how they worked. They must still exist but I think I will need to try this out some more. I like posts like these that make me think!

It seems that satellites have a limited lifetime. I started out with 123 and now I have 119 after about 6 game-years.

Sometimes they get destroyed in war I have noticed. I am not sure how that is happening though.
