Rip Off? [Kinda...not really]
At least two of the puzzles from the screenshots are directly taken from Monument Valley. Making a game like monument vally? Okay. Directly steal something from it? Not that okay.

Yes, some puzzles in Evo Explores visually resemble original levels from Monument Valley, but their solutions are totally different. There are not so many geometric figures after all :)

If have to say, it may habe been better if it would have looked at least a bit more different from monument valley. Stuff like this makes it seem like this is just a cheaper version of it and stuff like that.
I'm still interested to buy it but still...

Yeah, I understand your concern.
In any case, Evo Explores is not better then MV is terms of visual and sound design, but I still think that levels in EE are more diverse and challenging. Another advantage is presence on desktop and lower price :)

Nice to see how honest you are about your game. I will either buy it during the steam summer sale or when it is on sale the next time (sadly it seems to be kinda short but so was monument valley).

it's very hard to beat a game with $1M budget in visual quality, so I focused on what I can compete with original game - on levels. And yes, EE is relatively short, making levels takes an enormous amount of time (70% of all development time, I think)

Wow, I didn't know that monument valley had such a high budget.

yeah, they call themselves an indie, when in fact they had a huge budget and a lot of marketing power like appearance in house of cards series. There are too may teams nowadays who pretend they are independent to gain an extra media exposure with this "indie" word

Reminds me of this

Wow, just came across this game, and based on the screenshots most of its level assets look 100% ripped off from Monument Valley. I'd say this is well within the area of copyright infringement :/

I also found another one that looks to heavily lean on Monument Valley, a bit more freely though

Your understanding of copyright is wrong. You can't copyright an art style as well you can't copyright game mechanics. What you CAN copyright is an exact execution (game character, game name, piece of music, etc.).

If your understanding would be true, then there would be no FPS after Doom (or whatever game was the first FPS).

While Evo Explores' levels are visually very similar to MV's levels, all puzzled are unique. And there are several mechanics that were taken from EE to MV2 (like passing a piece of level from one handle to another). I think borrowing features is a good thing. In the end players receive better and more diverse games.
