It gives a boost to Pet Food, based on Fish Power.

It was also the first Pet Village 'building', and to me is more of a side mini game than the rest of the village, that gives stronger boosts/rewards.

It's also a handy place to park one of your dungeon pets while the blacksmiths and alchemists are upgrading its equipment...they can earn some experience while they wait for their goods to be ready.

Fishing is an extremely good source of class XP, comparable to that of alchemists and blacksmiths, but for pets of other classes.

Mind you, fishing--and other Pet Village features--make more sense when you get more pets; if you're in the early game and your pet army is small, you probably want your dungeon pets in dungeons and your adventurers in campaigns, though there are times when you want dungeon pets in campaigns, especially when pets are scarce.

I think I had at least 40-45 pets before I had them to spare for fishing, in part because I always prioritized getting more dungeon teams.

Gives more growth from feeding. Also the class xp is pretty good. Fishing is quite good, but early on you're not gonna be getting significant bonuses. You could reasonably skip the auto sell pet and the pet that improves speed, but its well worth to spare at least the 1 pet to enable auto fishing.

Since I have 11 pets and only 10 can go on the same campaign, I mostly put my frog in the auto fishing and once in a while I sell the fish. The rest is going on campaigns or train with my clones

The short answer is that it helps to grow and level your pets. You can get up to 200% bonus to the growth you pet get when you feed them, but this will need 1.6 billion Fish Power. Sadly it decays over 30 hours after you rebirth. It also can give you a lot of class xp. For me at the moment I'm getting 15,000 xp per hour per pet and this isn't even maxed. I wouldn't be surprised if you could get it up to 40,000-50,000. I've been running the fishing pond for over a year now and are only at fishing level 22 of 100. You only need 27 levels to run all the ponds though.

My fishing pets are about level 70 and my pond level is 31 and I'm getting about 30k an hour. It's possible some deep endgame people are getting 40-50k. That's a good estimate.

Lategame i'm getting 81k xp per hour, I got the swan pet which have class lvl 90, only from fishing. Fishing is great for lvling new pets as the early xp per hour is bad. Fishing level 34 atm.

Midgame, level 35 pond, 40984 xp/hr (or Swan and Koi each have learning coat equipped, boosting that to 61476 xp/hr). And they each get 3743 added on top of that number thanks to SSS+10 ego swords.

What is that class xp rate determined by? It's not CLs or growth on the pets. Each would have wildly different numbers if that were the case. (My Swan is CL 87 with 119k growth. My Koi is CL 78 with 77k growth. My Octopus is in the middle slot with CL 83 and 171k growth. These are my 1st, 6th, and 2nd highest CL pets.)

Each fish you catch gives XP. This XP is then applied both towards the fishing pond level and to the three pet slots as class XP. So those pets get more class XP from catching better fish (from better ponds) and from doing so faster.

Ah, duh. For some reason I thought it was a passive with a value pulled magically out of nowhere. But it's right there. The number going towards fishing level matches a number in the tooltips I was looking at.
