Pet Cards game was originally planned as the reward-less minigame and is going to be that way. there is no even leaderboard for it (unlike AFKy, Godly Shoot, Bat Shooter, Ghost Defend...)
the option to trade scores for food is designed for novice players who have no Refrigerator/BaalPower so they would have a way to get a small but steady supply of food - and that option is mostly a side-effect of Pet Cards not its design core (two different features streamlined into one)
however I do agree that having more milestones for other fields would be a neat idea, including the reward for Pet Cards, even if it would be just an insignificant bragging right or some small token
there are lots of other matters that don't have milestones yet, like total RTI, total SpaceDim, fastest time to ITRTGv4, UBv4 points, mimic points, total GP spent, rebirths, playtime, unlocked/evolved pets, etc - so maybe they will appear if future? milestones is relatively young addition to the game (it was introduced in -what- august, I believe?), but it was brainstormed for the year at least
Pet Cards can be big business.
Thank you for the insight into that. I'm newer to the game, only been playing for about 6 weeks.
From the few threads I've read in this sub, it seems I'm playing much more casually than most people.
Well, this may not be a representative sample...I mean, people who comment a lot here may be "less casual" than the general run of players. I've shifted from more to less casual this last year, but if my work heats up the way I hope it will, I might go back to "quite casual"...the game itself works with every style, that being one thing I love about it.
Every now and again, you'll see screenshots from people who came back after one or more years of doing nothing at all in the game, proving that they took their idleness to truly godlike levels.
that is debatable... as @Alberich said - majority of people who post in this sub are indeed playing less casually and more intense, trying either to minmax everything or at least optimize their routines. players who are playing more casually and just idling (as it is implied) don't post much here
there is big Discord server around - https://discord.com/invite/r2u6VNU - where you can find more players with very different powerlevels and playstyles - from hardcore tryhards to casual normies. Steam Sub isn't the best indicator of casual vs dedicated by itself
I would recommend you to check the wiki - https://itrtg.miraheze.org/ - it has a lot of helpful information to aid in your quest
and also that guide and which pet to unlock with Pet Token - https://docs.google.com/document/d/1V0d2b9RJkZjRKv9IF9XFkWgJWm52HgQ5vsj9161imP4 - it gives a nice overview of all available pets with their pros and cons. mind that Christmas is nearby and there will be a holiday event in the game which nets a free Pet Token and other valuable bonuses (those events appear every major holiday/season, usually every 2-3 months)
I've got some decent "midgame"-ish (give or take) progress built up now. I've got 175M clones, 3500 CC, 100k CS, 800k BS, 227k CP, 775k LC, almost 14.5k ChP, almost 15M total might, roughly 544k perm levels on each RTI bonus, and about 11M total pet growth across 102 unlocked pets (and 92 of them are evolved). But I started... Yikes, it's been 6.5 years since I started. (Including my super slacker first year in that count.)
One area where my laziness is apparent if you compare against what other players have been up to is my progress with pet dungeons and crafting. Many players including myself have all been playing since before that stuff got added to the game, but while many other players mastered depth 3 dungeons long ago and have been putting their dungeon teams to the test against secret dungeon bosses and in the infinity towers, and while those players also have their pets decked out in T3 / T4 gear that's all sorts of optimized and maxed out and they're now pushing their luck in the recently released depth 4 dungeons... Here I am still running depth 2 dungeons, possibly ready to start dipping into depth 3 but I haven't tried it yet, and I'm still using more T2 gear than anything else and still lacking in enchantments / gems / etc. on most of that gear. (I'm very cautious about pushing higher difficulty or pushing into the next depth. But also for a long time after dungeons were first added to the game I would just get tired of dealing with dungeons and I'd disassemble the team and stick to just campaigns for a few weeks. Got lazy like that multiple times over a year or so.)
I've barely touched the card game in all the time since it was added. Didn't need the help acquiring pet food by the time it was added. And even though I know that losses on your record don't hurt anything I got it in my head to not want to let any losses remain on my record and I reload saves to erase them. So the card game in my save displays 18 games played / 18 games won / 0 games lost / total score 313 / average score 17 / trading points 156. I don't think I've ever spent any of the trading points I've earned. And I only have 9 cards in my deck.
