Which has more value the pet token or the candy cane?
Better yet which would have a larger impact in getting the other? I am at 7 Pets at the moment lounging around during my first UBC so that I can finish the training caps, usually while running the go campaign when not doing events.

I think I saw it mentioned that it's a bug if you're seeing a candy cane available in this event. Being able to get it (or them, since you could get two) was supposed to be exclusive to Christmas 2021.

Although when the candy cane is maxed out (SSS+20, which should cost a ton of pet stones to get it there from where it starts (I forget... total cost for all of those upgrades should be over a million stones? it won't be cheap, whatever it is)) it's worth a 101% bonus to campaigns, which is 1% extra over a maxed out T4 stick (and T4 stuff is endgame for pets right now). In the event campaign that's kinda like having a whole extra pet in there. The pet with the cane will be bringing back double what a pet with no bonuses will be bringing back.

I forget what the candy cane before all the upgrades started at for its campaign bonus. But for other benchmarks to compare it against: a maxed out T3 stick has a 50% bonus, a maxed out T2 stick has a 33.33% bonus, and a maxed out T1 stick has a 16.67% bonus.

Oh, a pet also has a 100% campaign bonus if they're evolved as an adventurer with class level of about 40 (assuming 0.5% per class level extra as a specialist). Just another point of reference there. Maxed candy cane on an unevolved pet is kinda like having a level 40 adventurer with no stick. (Maxed T3 stick on an unevolved pet is kinda like having a level 20 adventurer with no stick.) Or stacking them together, maxed candy cane on a level 40 adventurer is kinda like having no stick on a level 80 adventurer.

Anyway... Since you've only got 7 pets unlocked, you've still got a newbie boost where the events are concerned. Players with 0-5 pets unlocked get triple results from event campaigns and players with 6-10 pets unlocked get double results from event campaigns. This is an attempt to balance for your lack of pets and how little you're able to take advantage of sticks and adventurers at that point. To help you be capable of at least getting the pet token out of the event without too much effort. A candy cane may look like an even more potent boost for the short term if you can pick one up to use in an event on top of that event newbie boost. But don't get too attached. You will grow out of that newbie boost before too long.

But of course in the long term it's always nice to be able to add more pets to your roster. You will have campaigns (growth and item tend to get prioritized above other campaigns by many players (I like keeping GP campaign busy at all times too, but it does require Nightmare and FSM to stand a chance at really being effective)), dungeons (currently up to 6 teams are available), RTI (which can keep a pet from each class busy), and pet village (which is just fishing for now, but more is being worked on) to deal with. And a candy cane only helps with the campaign part of that.

This link (pinned in the newbie-help section of the discord) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1V0d2b9RJkZjRKv9IF9XFkWgJWm52HgQ5vsj9161imP4/edit sorts some token pets by what should be higher priority to unlock. (It also explains some reasoning for why they're ranked where they are.)

FWIW, if I had a choice like that in general, I'd go for the unique item (the candy cane) as there will be plenty of pets available down the road. (But I have not been playing as long as most commenters here, so take my advice ♥♥♥ grano salis.)

Did I stray from that point in my post?
... Huh, I guess I kinda did near the end there.
But yeah, that had been a major point during the Christmas event. There was no guarantee that the candy canes will ever be made available again while we've been consistently getting a chance at another pet token out of every event and we always have the regular options to spend pet stones (or real money, if you prefer) on pet tokens at any time.

I was able to get one of the candy canes saw the second but then an update hit and the possibility to get the second vanished.
