Idling to Rule the Gods

Idling to Rule the Gods

How often should I rebirth?
Right when I can, or should I wait longer? Does it make a difference?

Usually the typical guidelines will be something like:
1) when the numbers on the rebirth screen are green
2) when you've progressed at least one god farther than your previous rebirth (but do try to see if you can push farther than that in the current one first)
3) when you feel like it would take a long time to grind up one more god than you've currently killed (with the higher stats in the next run you'll return to this same point quicker and with more room to grow before the next rebirth)

There may be circumstances that will be worth approaching in a different way, but that should be all you need to worry about when you're first getting started.

After defeating Baal for the first time there will be challenges that you can start. Some challenges function like a normal rebirth and just ask for something like creating a universe or building an upgraded black hole or finishing all of the in-game achievements during the run. Some challenges function like performing two rebirths in a row so that you start with no stats and only the benefit of things that you've unlocked up to that point as you fight up to Baal again, sometimes with an additional restriction added like having limited clones or having no access to divinity. And some challenges wipe out stats AND temporarily lock a bunch of the things you've previously unlocked so that it's almost like starting all over again. Before starting a type of challenge that loses your rebirth multis, many players will run a few rapid rebirths just to get a bunch of quick god kills for GP at the expense of their multis before losing their multis to the start of the challenge anyway.

Edit: Another different tactic for somewhere later down the line is to focus on the Might feature, which unlocks roughly 1H35M into a run if you have the trainings 1-capped and have Improved Next At purchased. The more Double Rebirth Challenges (DRCs) you've completed, the better. (Since they grant free levels which count towards Total Might each time the Might tab gets unlocked.) And you spam runs close to that length to farm Total Might levels (adding up bit by bit to create a large surge in power at the point in the run where Might unlocks, which is actually great for making DRC runs quicker to complete).

Those 1 hour 35 minute or longer Might runs are about as quick as I personally care to do anything but there are players who prefer speedruns of 1 hour or shorter (maybe even as quick as 15 minutes per run) with everything carefully calculated and planned to hit an equilibrium where they can consistently reach the same god every time (despite the penalties on the multis for rebirths shorter than 1 hour) for a consistent high speed GP gain (though you don't get much else out of it). This is also not a beginner tactic though.

Also, eventually pets will become more important as you unlock more of them and get their growth attributes higher. Some times to consider when deciding what to do next are 3, 6, and 10.8 hours. These are how long it takes from a full hunger bar to reach 75%, 50%, and 10% hunger. Pets can't be fed until they pass the 75% mark and you can gain the most points from a feeding below the 10% mark. You may or may not care to hold out in a run for a bit longer just to get better growth gains from a feeding. (Might be a good judging period for the third guideline I gave you.)

Rebirthing frequently is good, because you need to keep upping those multipliers. The main provision is that it doesn't take you long to setup again. Usually this means using the "next at" options with ignore-1 on the settings; as well as good creation speed (245% boost from GP), so you can get your clones back.

Once you max out on clones and get >10 gp per rebirth, you can buy the 3gp option to temporarily get 99k clones instantly, which can help you a lot.

Secondarily, it helps if you can get about Level 20 upgrades on all your monuments quick (prior to P-Baal increases), that will give you the maximum 5x rebirth multiplier on your monuments. This comes from the 745% building speed from GP.

Hope that helps!

It can really depend on you too, I tend to rebirth significantly later than most people, which brings a few bonuses (like a significantly higher statistic multiplier thanks to having a lot more buildings than someone with similar play time as well as a significantly higher "afky clones killed") at the cost of slowing down the overall progression (because I kill less gods for the same amount of time).

I am speaking about levelling buildings to 300, 50, 50, 25, 25, 20 and 5 (0 for the last because it's still out of reach), with the first 6 getting the full 20 upgrade levels each time too, and with my current GP stats it still takes over a day to do that, not to mention that getting the divinity generator to 5-5 and Might levels to at least 20 also takes up time.

Overall though, it is definitely better to find a pace that fits you rather than tryingto force a faster or slower rebirth, because there are a lot of other factors to take into account, like your pet growth, the amount of DRC you cleared, your GP stats (clone count, creation count, build speed, all of them let you rebirth significantly faster as you spend more and more GP on them).
